Exacltly. What use is medicine if no one survives to a triage bed?

How many people are going to survive a reactor explosion or a total decompression of a vessel? How many are going to survive a starfighter duel? I didn't see a single soul get up from a blaster shot in any of the movies (except Leia, of course).

Hmm I'm pretty sure that Picard did have his arm replaced in "The Best of Both Worlds." I remember Data breaking off a part of the borg part when they finally get him back. Unless I'm insane and imagining it. Anybody know for sure? From the production art for the episode it references a "Starfleet bionic arm." I just don't know if they used that in the episode.

Or total body prosthesis, with cyborgs like Briareos (Appleseed).

Appleseed/Ghost in the Shell are (among) the best hard-SF for cybernetics and related conceptry.

As for medical technology, they're about equal in capability, but Trek tends to get things done quicker.
