All good things..........The episode that drove me nuts
Quick Question, did this drive anyone else nuts. The whole reverse time situation, the freakin technobabble anonomly was supposed to move backwards in time, being created by the tacheoyn scan. In the future, when they first scanned the space, they did not detect anything, then they left came back later, then they detected it. If it was going in reverse time, it would not have been created when they went back. Eveytime I see that episode it drives me crazy.
It was created by Q and it was understood the whole even was impossible, a paradox. That was the whole point of it, Q created something impossible to test Picard with.
"If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If the law is on your side, pound on the law. If neither is on your side, pound on the table."
"The captain claimed our people violated a 4,000 year old treaty forbidding us to develop hyperspace technology. Extermination of our planet was the consequence. The subject did not survive interrogation."

I understand the whole paradox thing. They should have been consistant with it though. The medical ship in the future should have seen the rift, or whatever it was called, tried to scan it, then it should have dissapeared (or be created going the oppisite way in time). But what happened was the medical ship (I don't remember the name) arrived, and they did not see anything, they did the scan, then left, later in the future they come back to it and it has grown (or been created) going foward in time since Time elpsed, not back which was the main story driver. My point, in the future scenes, the rift grows as time advances. The main plot has it growing as time reverses. If you are going to do a paradox do it right, like the original Terminator.
Except Q was trying to make things dificult for Picard. Having the rift be there would instantly make the people from the future aware that Picard was telling the truth. Yet Q was doing his best to make it hard for Picard to get assistance from the other time lines.Sam Or I wrote:I understand the whole paradox thing. They should have been consistant with it though. I think I can explain this. But I'm not sureSam Or I wrote:I understand the whole paradox thing. They should have been consistant with it though. Let's see. They were there in 2395. As it gets smaller in time, and Q was, indeed, trying to make things difficult, then he wouldn't have created it in the first place, to make Picard seem like a fool until he understood what the hell was going on, and how to find it. He was partially insane, y'know. Once he knew what was happening 'for that one brief second', Q created the rift for the future. As a matter of happenstance, as anti - time goes backward, then 2364 would be the relative future for the rift. Therefore, regardless of whether Q had created the rift or not in 2395 at the time the Pasteur had arrived, it became obvious that he created it sometime later, and this means that the 2364 and 2370 versions were bigger. At the beginning of life on Earth, it was huge, and destroyed such life. Q informed Picard that the real paradox was lying in the inverse tachyon beams that he used in each universe. Therefore, it goes like this.
Picard finds the place, nothing's there.
Picard realises what's going on, Q creates a miniscule version of the rift.
In 2370, the rift has already been created from their perspective, and thus continues to grow.
In 2364, the rift is much larger, having grown as time goes backwards.
At the so - called beginning, it dominates the sky and dstroys human life.
Hope that clears some things up.
Three rings for the NATO leaders under the sky,
Five for the UN defense board in their halls of stone,
Nine for the weak allies, doomed to die,
One for the patient man on his throne
In the land of America where all nukes lie.
One Bush to rule them all, One Bush to find them,
One Bush to bring them all and in the UN bind them
In the land of America where all the nukes lie.
