I don't get it. What kind of point is she trying to make?

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

A 30 year old woman showing up naked is a rather different spectre than a 70 year old woman showing up naked.

That would be the equivalent of a terrorist attack, or worse.Tsyroc wrote:She'd really finish things off if she's naked and sings.

And people used to wonder how you could get hundreds of people to drink poisoned Kool-Aid. I could foresee lineups for the stuff in this case.Tsyroc wrote:She'd really finish things off if she's naked and sings.

That makes me think of the Simpson's episode where Lisa and Marge escape a doomed Earth on a rocket. Homer and Bart sneak onto another one that has all of Earth's mega-annoying people (Rosie O'Donald, Pauly Shore etc...). That rocket is being fired into the sun but Homer and Bart don't think death is fast enough so they eject themsevles into space.

The law is far too slow for such a crisis, it should lead to her instant demotion in status from "human citizen" to "rabid wild dog" allowing local gun owners to rapidly deal with the issue.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:
The latter should be a felony.

It's England, there are no local gun owners. This is why you should be against gun control!!!Sea Skimmer wrote:The law is far too slow for such a crisis, it should lead to her instant demotion in status from "human citizen" to "rabid wild dog" allowing local gun owners to rapidly deal with the issue.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:

Actually, since the "protest" involves her sitting still while people cut the clothes off her, one must wonder if someone will abruptly plunge one of the scissors into a vital area and end the suffering.Asst. I, for one, speaking as a sworn police officer no less would refuse to arrest the subject. This was a justifiable homicide if ever there was one.Darth Wong wrote:Actually, since the "protest" involves her sitting still while people cut the clothes off her, one must wonder if someone will abruptly plunge one of the scissors into a vital area and end the suffering.Asst. Of course, on a more serious note, what, exactly, do people like her think they are accomplishing with such gestures as this? I just can't see any point in useless displays of this kind. It makes the doer of the deed feel good no doubt. I'm sure it's very flattering to their egos to be The Heroes Who Would Not Stay Silent (especially when they can play that part at so very little actual cost or risk). But what earthly good does it really do? I'm afraid results matter to me every bit as much, and perhaps more to me than intentions. After all, a lot of actual harm in the world is done by well-meaning people. The old cliche about what road is paved with good intentions is a good point, cliche though it may be.
Does this old biddy think that anyone with the power to affect policy honestly gives a rat's ass whether or not an old, washed up wife of a dead rock star disrobes in protest? I remember seeing a documentary about her and John Lennon taht I once saw, where they had a "Bed In" for peace. I think she and Lennon spent something like a week in bed as a gesture to protest the Vietnam War. Did they ever, even for a moment, honestly entertain the notion that Lyndon Johnson or Richard Nixon, whichever was president at the moment, would say: "Oh Shit! John and Yoko are refusing to get out of bed! Damn! I better recall that flight of B-52s"?
Honestly, I think a simple statement of one's opinions does every bit as much (or as little) good as these grandiose, but ultimately quite empty gestures. In fact, I would respect someone's clearly stated opinion (though perhaps not the reasoning behind it), but I honestly feel a kind of contempt for these showy displays and gestures, that don't really cost the person doing it anything. They're saying that this is something so very important to them, but their doing something really very trivial and superficial about it. I even respect people like draft dodgers and protestors more - at least they have the courage of their convictions to the extent that they are willing to actually put their asses on the line in some way and pay a price for their beliefs, however misguided they may sometimes be.

Abstract art is abstract art, she's trying to say something but she's being too damn up her own ass to just say it, but then maybe it's better than celebrities trying to explain their political philosophy.
