Damn now I just have to vote yes... (€ Related)

Post by Faram »

Okay my full time contract as an consult at my current location is about to expire :(, I might get a part time…

But no sooner than that cloud appears a ray of sunshine trickled down on me.

One of my old contacts “might” be able to hook me up with a contract at one of the larger banks here in Sweden. It would involve converting stuff to euro and generally mess around with servers and stuff.

The only catch is that this 1-2y project depends on Sweden joining the € or not…

And I was just about decided to vote no, anyways there should be an opening at that bank anyways guess I have to wait and see.

I haven't decided what to vote yet, if we ever do get a referendum.

What were your 'no' reasons?

The fact that the yes sayers have proven absolutly nuthing about anything.

I am not a wealthy man so I am sceptical of anything that the elite says is good. In all likly hood it is good for them and not form me.

I need proof that there is somthing good for me in voting yes before I do that.

Well, vote yes then. Believe me, the € isn't the bogeyman the no-crowd paint it as, it certainly wasn't here, and shouldn't be there either. Just my two euro-cents, though, do as you see fit. :)

Why vote no? I mean when have the French and Germans ever been wrong?

German ones do, anyway, so my guess is the answer is 'yes'.

Try pressing Alt Gr and then e. It should create the euro symbol you desire.

I've been to Spain, France and Italy since the Euro started. Never have I felt more at home in other E.U states than nowadays. Vote yes, the Euro builds the community. Economically, you're tied to the Union anyway, so it really comes down to the fact of having or not a voice in the Central Bank (with the Euro, you have).

And the new coins are so pretty and shiny, and you get to have in circulation coins from all over the E.U!

Just an idiotic 15 year old American teenager's view on this...

The Euro means more commerce and trade between the European countries, and you can almost be sure that a period of economic growth will follow, which is obviously good. If Sweden joins, that means you get a piece of the pie. If it doesn't then it's possible you'll get left behind. The Euro is going fairly strong now isn't it? More than an American dollar...

Yes it is, but that is hurting export orientated industries due to the rise in the currency ... it is also helping EU members not part of the Euro tourism industries because of that fact.

Unfortunately the Euro economies aren't properly converged to have the 'one tax fits all system' at this point, it will probably be a few more years before this happens, although I will point out that the problems that Germany is having isn't because of the Euro, it is because in spite of it. Labour reforms were needed anyway, it was just the strong Euro that made it happen now rather than later.

I had to use the character map to get it.

Supposedly the keystrokes are Alt+0128 but I never get that to work for me so I just use the past method.

Vote yes. Having one unified currency will simply make it easier to eventually assimilate you all into the Imperial States of America.

Although, when I went to Britian, the subways and bus stands were plastered with 'No Euro!' stickers. Why the hostility? British pride? Longing for the empire? Honest economical reasons?

Can't say either side has had any compelling arguments.
Only one there is is that it'll be usefull to have a common currency and I am not sure swedens currency will be that well off when it has to compete against much of the EU countries that now have the euro.

On my keyboard it's ALT+5 = €
Also ALT + 4 generates this = $

Here "AltGr +e" does the magic trick.
$ is "Shift 4", but I don't have any pound symbol pre-defined on keyboards...

I think these are all the monetary related characters I have available but there might be more that I just don't recognize.

$€¢£¤¥

On the same note, some of the ones I posted might not be currency related. They were in the same grouping area so I thought they might be.

The yen symbol looks better in Times New Roman because it has two cross members insted of just the one in Arial
