President Bush's Speech
I it's still going on as I write this, but frankly, I walked out in the middle. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was something better than this. I guess that reflects my attitude about the Iraq war in general.
That's the wrong way to tickle Mary, that's the wrong way to kiss!
Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!
Hooray, pour les français! Farewell, Angleterre!
We didn't know how to tickle Mary, but we learnt how, over there!

It's best to not watch George W. Bush's speeches. I do support (some) of his policies, specifically tax cuts and the Iraq war, and listening to his speeches only instills doubt.

I simply didn't expect anything new to be honest.
Same old, same old. Terror this, war that, freedom to those, death to others; he's a broken record of American justice.

I love the way people get angry when you point out that Bush is obviously a moron, yet everyone agrees that whenever he opens his mouth, he does a perfect impression of one.

It's funny, there are paid comical writers out there that could spend all day locked in a room with a years supply of coffee and sugar and still not come up with some of the hilarious shit Dubya produces.
I have to admit, the guy has a talent, it just doesn't appear to be leader of the most powerful nation on Earth.

"Shitty public speaker" is giving him too much credit. Abraham Lincoln was a shitty public speaker as well. Dubya, on the other hand, apparently has a grasp of the English language so tenuous one wonders how he graduated high school.Stormbringer wrote:He's a shitty public speaker. That's arguable, love him or hate him, there are many instances where he just doesn't seem to have done the right thing, Iraq for instance. The déjá vú occuring is only showing what happened to his Dad who lost the national elections after dealing with Iraq and not spending more effort concentrating on the real issues like the economy etc.Stormbringer wrote:He's a shitty public speaker. I think he's pulling a Blair, Blair often avoids the main points people want sorted out which naturally occur at home and not abroad, yet he changes the subject or tries to solve a problem that didn't exist. He's a brilliant actor and the recent Dr. Kelly inquiry only proves this.

Lincoln wasn't an orator. But the man knew how to speek and act in public. The standards of today and then are very different.Durran Korr wrote:"Shitty public speaker" is giving him too much credit. Yes, Bush is a fumbling boob when it comes to speeking in public. There's no question about that.

His vision for public policy is up for debate. You migh disagree with it but that doesn't make him an idiot. A lot of it is a matter of priorities.Admiral Valdemar wrote:That's arguable, love him or hate him, there are many instances where he just doesn't seem to have done the right thing, Iraq for instance. And hey, he got his war and he's managed force people to support it at this point or leave a huge disaster. A fool he isn't.

Im irritated with his constant blending of Iraq and Terrorists. Iraqi's terrorists didnt attack the US, but he seems to want to plant that seed in the public mind.
I was half expecting him to admit we are going to be there a long time, but he avoided the time question.

Cheers TPJ. My thoughts exactly. Ive watched these threads for a while, and I find it fascinating that even though most can agree the guy isnt the sharpest knife in the box, and that the things he says are mindbendingly stupid, people still jump to his defence.

Im not so sure Bush is dumb. I think he sees the world in black/white terms. I think there is no way he can be objective about Iraq. He is a terrible speaker to be sure.pellaeons_scion wrote:Cheers TPJ. My thoughts exactly. Dont misunderestimate the man..seriously, judge him by is actions..his actions to date have not been overly great by most standards.Darth Wong wrote:I love the way people get angry when you point out that Bush is obviously a moron, yet everyone agrees that whenever he opens his mouth, he does a perfect impression of one.

Given he is the American president and with his advisors I would be worried if he took a fancy to the film 'The Dictator'pellaeons_scion wrote:The worlds greatest comedian. Maybe he will be the new charlie chaplin, almost innocent in his foolishness.

And yet somehow this "idiot" has consistently outmaneuvered his political opponents at home and abroad and accomplished everything he set out to do. He had the vision to overthrow a tyrant in Mesopotamia while the rest of the world was content to let a madman develop WMDs.
I also find it hilarious that the same people who insisted our President kowtow to the United Nations in a matter of American security now don't want the UN to help secure the peace and freedom of the Iraqi people. And you all cared so much about those people when Butcher Bush was coming to get them, but now you'd let them suffer just to spite a man you irrationally hate. Hypocrites all, in my opinion.

Outmanouvoured? dont be silly..he just did what he wanted to do and fuck who dissagreed. he has not accomplished much..Iraq is fucked up..the locals dont like you and a good chunk of the planet hates his guts. Bush still has not found any WMD's, probably because Saddam never had the chanvce to rebuild his stoickpile .Upshot Knothole wrote:And yet somehow this "idiot" has consistently outmaneuvered his political opponents at home and abroad and accomplished everything he set out to do. People would be happy for the UN to help in Iraq, what people dont want is the UN to be the be the blanket behind which the US still runs things for America's benifit. Bush wants the UN in there?, fine, so long as the UN has control, not the US.I also find it hilarious that the same people who insisted our President kowtow to the United Nations in a matter of American security now don't want the UN to help secure the peace and freedom of the Iraqi people. Btw, Iraq was never a threat to America..they lost the ability to threaten a horny camel after 1991.
