Dammit Spanky, draw our webcomic!! (large inlined pics)

Post by Utsanomiko »

Yes, I'm aware the pics below are large and inlined, but it's necessary to demonstrate them here.

Ok, let me just clear things up by stating that Spanky and I have put thought and effort into creating a concept for
a weekly webcomic, so far known by the working title The Truth About Nerds And Geeks (this title might stay and
it might not). It's basically about three 18-20 year-old guys, Scott, Kurt, and Steve, and their nerdish interests, and their
eternal dilemma of dealing with both non-nerds, bigger nerds, and the loathesomly dimunitive 'geeks'. It starts with a
12-15 strip long storyarc that Introduces the main characters, some of the reoccurring characters, and wrapping up with
Steve finding the holy grail of bizzare games: Tail of the Sun for PS1.

So far, We've come up with main and supporting characters, basic sketches, drafts of several strips, and outlines
for months worth of one-shot strips and month-long storyarcs.

So We've been waiting for the last six to nine months to get this thing off the ground finally.

The problem? I've done all the work and have everything laid out, and he barely has given more than a passing effort
in is freetime at drawing even anything preliminary. Six to nine months of begging him to do even some rough sketches,
watching as one of my projects dwindles farther and farther away. It's not like he's had no freetime during the summer
or during school (he does, he just blows it all by browsing this board), or that he isn't good at drawing the things.
I think he's unmotivated.

All I've asked for is an hour or two a week for drawing 1-2 dead-simple backgrounds and a handfull of separate inked
characters, so I can scan them, color them, lay them out together in 6-8 panels, and add text. Considering his drawing
abilities and all the bigger stuff to be done in photoshop, he's got the easy part.

Anywho, I did what I could to get something to work with, so I grabbed some Megaman sprites and made test strips for
the first three comic strips for Nerds and Geeks, which feature Scott and Kurt at the mall. Keep in mind these are
**Test Strips**, and in no way compare to the layout and appearance I'm looking for in the finished, hand-drawn
versions. The images and exoressions of the characters are severely lacking. I can't do the 4th strip or the ones past it
due to the limits of emotions and actions of sprites. So consider these to be promotional work.

Here's the first one, followed by the next two. If you like them, please bug Spanky to go read my Webcomic Design Document
(in his shared network file folder) and start drawing.

Too much bandwidth use. Wait about an hour, I assume.

Yeah, judging by the subsequent scripts and outlines it'll take off not long after Steve shows up, or at least once the first storyarc is wrapping up. The first three are basically just to have an anchor point, and it behaves more like one long strip rather than 3 normal ones.

Of course. But of course sprites aren't the point here.
