Two complaints about drivers in my area
Moderator: Edi
I drove through LA on a Friday afternoon on 210, during rush hour. Nothing pisses me off anymore.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.

It would be nice to actually be able to move on the Schykull Expressway for a change- it's not the World's Biggest Parking Lot for nothing.
Although, driving in South Philadelphia, and having some guy pull out of his parking space and swing into the road can be a bit unnerving, especially when his parking space(and the parking spaces of every Italian-descended man, woman, and child in South Philly) is in the middle of the road.

Hmm, I hadn't been in a traffic jam that WASN'T caused by farm implements until I was about 12 years old.Vertigo1 wrote:What I hate more than them is the damned farming impliments driving on a two-lane road and absolutely will not move over so people can pass!Nathan F wrote:Funny, here in Knoxville, if you go less than 5 MPH over the speed limit, you WILL get run over.
And what I hate are all the damn trailer-tractor rigs. They will get up trying to pass another one, get on a hill, and start LOOSING SPEED. The truck they try to pass ends up going past them, and then they try again, it goes on for about 10 miles until finally the one trying to pass gets enough momentum down a hill. Or when they stack up going down interstate and you can't get over in the lane you need to be in to turn off (using a turning signal), because the asshats won't give you space to get over.
Anyways, we don't have any roads that AREN'T two lane (well, one or two one lane) in my hometown....

That's because you're in Maryland, Shep ...the land of +30MPH to whatever the Speed limit really is.MKSheppard wrote:Funny I don't have these problems...maybe because I do 55-60 MPH
in 30~40 MPH zones
For me...I just don't drive in DC unless needed.
VA is okay but filled with cops in any residential district who are beyond antsy(one thing to pull over a speeder another to pull me over because I was doing 4 MPH over the limit...on a clear road, and the next person zooms by at least 10 MPH over the limit)
MD is nuts...where what I think of speeding is basically the speed limit.

I saw this happen twice when I was in the military; Both times other people and me used the shoulder to pass the idiots...CelesKnight wrote: ...SNIP...
And in general, I particularly hate people who drive side by side on a two lane road when there is no traffic, and hence no reason to do it. Come on dick. Speed up, slow down, turn to the left or right or yield but DON'T FRIGGEN DO 55 IN A 65 NEXT TO ANOTHER DICK DOING 54.9!!!!!
Sorry about the venting. So, what other stories are there?

That happens here in Houston as well. I have seen traffic within two miles of the same section of freeway vary from 45 to 80+...Nathan F wrote:Funny, here in Knoxville, if you go less than 5 MPH over the speed limit, you WILL get run over.

I live in Los Angeles, and I typically drive my mom around in our Suburban (hauling a lot of stuff, typically...) I'm not sure which drivers are crazier: those in rice rockets, or those in other SUVs.
The worst part is when people drive SUVs like they're driving rice rockets.
As for my own driving habits, I make an attempt to stay at or a litle above the speed limit, except when going around curves. I use my turn signal (although often for less duration than I should thanks to assholes who think that a turn signal means SPEED UP). And if I have to go slow, I try to not do it in the fast lane.

1. Lack of turn signal usage.Montcalm wrote:List the 100 things other drivers do that piss you off.
2. Lane changes two or more lanes over.
3. Weaving in/out of traffic (Dogfighting)
4. Driving excessively slow or fast.
5. Tailgaters.
6. The fact that most people only *react* to traffic situations, instead of thinking *ahead* of them. (as taught in drivers ed)
7. Not paying attention to the situation around them (see above)
8. Slow traffic keeps right...
9. Not giving a shit about the next person/inconsiderate.
10. Oncoming traffic doesn't turn their brights off.
11. Not paying attention to traffic signs
12. Running red lights when they are about to change.
13. Idiots who drive haphazardley in parking lots.
14. Big rigs that can't get out of their own way.
15-100. Let me think a little more...

Bashing bad drivers is just too easy. Most people can rattle off a list of pet driving peeves without thinking.
However, having said that, there's something to be said for the Zen state of mind where you try not to let that shit bother you too much. People who fly off the handle over stuff like that are just as dangerous as the people who do it (and sometimes they're the same people).

Top peeve, people cutting you up on roundabouts. Happened only today, about 7 times (4 by the same person none the less). Sit there waiting for the opportunity to pull off, and some wanker 2 lanes over pulled straight across 2 lanes of traffic, causing 3 drivers to slam on their brakes, and almost getting my brother a massive shunting from someone coming up behind doing about 55mph, and then he promptly has the fucking balls to start honking his horn at everyone, and then proceeds to drive the next 10miles at 15mph in a 40mph zone.

Yeah, but you can also think of it this way. When people start bashing bad drivers, they're getting shit off their chest. That tends to calm them down a bit and not make them as likely to 'fly off the handle'. (which I imagine is the only reason the Venting thread in HoS is open)Darth Wong wrote:Bashing bad drivers is just too easy. Most people can rattle off a list of pet driving peeves without thinking.

Except that a lack of turn signal usage is seriously dangerous. OP drivers give me heart attacks when the suddenly swerve left or right into an oncoming lane and I have no idea what the hell they're about to do. I've honestly thought I was going to be in a head-on collision at least twice because oncoming cars didn't use they're GODDAMN TURN SIGNALS!Darth Wong wrote:Bashing bad drivers is just too easy.
