So Long CNX...
I'm a bit pissed now, I've just found that CNX, the cult TV and animation channel that Turner Entertainment made last October for men aged 16-34, is now being renamed to Toonami and totally changed because of new "synergy" with the normal CN channels.
Seems when they had the Toonami segment on CNX they got good ratings because they showed kids stuff that was repeated ad infinitum anyway, so because of that success this summer, the channel that had swim suit shows, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, kung-fu and other cult movies and Adult Swim shows will now become assimilated to be just like CN and Boomerang.
I am not happy.
I only found this out when the digital channel 244, in the entertainment section of channels wasn't CNX but a non-existent channel. To my horror, CNX was now Toonami and channel 621, right next to all the other kids channels.
Oh well, I just hope Turner appreciate that their nauseating reruns of kids TV shows that are already breaking the seams of CN and Boomerang will drive away a significant portion of viewers for the original CNX; adults.

They've been running adverts about it all week. Yes, it's a shame. Is it kids shows all night now too?Admiral Valdemar wrote:I'm a bit pissed now, I've just found that CNX, the cult TV and animation channel that Turner Entertainment made last October for men aged 16-34, is now being renamed to Toonami and totally changed because of new "synergy" with the normal CN channels.

Seems so, no proper animé, no uncut violence or cult movies or series like The Shield or anything.Rye wrote:hey've been running adverts about it all week. Yes, it's a shame. Is it kids shows all night now too?
Just pure, unfiltered shit.
That bites the ass. Can CN handle anime with anything but kid gloves?
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Apparently there's a brainbug in America that says Animation = For Kids.
I bet none of these jackasses never even heard of Fritz the Cat.

You mean Britain, not America.Dalton wrote:Apparently there's a brainbug in America that says Animation = For Kids.

America gave us The Simpsons, Family Guy and Dilbert. The UK has made adult animation like Stressed Eric (I hear the US version was butchered), Bob & Margaret and the recent Monkey Dust, but the dogma has it that animation = cartoons = kiddies Saturday morning stuff.
CNX was helping bring animé to mainstream, so many people I knew who hadn't heard of animé were flocking to watch Bebop and Outlaw Star etc. and seeing all the other cool stuff on CNX. It was a channel I reckon my dad could watch one night and enjoy, someone who scorns me for watching animé.
But that's all lost. The 16-34 target is lost. Instead, we have the entertainment equivalent of ramming a toothpick into my eye with Hanson playing in the background.
I reckon a coup d'etat should be done for CNX, let it break from Turner like the UK Sci-Fi channel did from the mother corporation. Sure they lost some channels, but ultimately they came out on top in the end.
Pity Bebop may never be seen on UK TV again thanks to Turner and many other new and original programming will be shelved for good.
Wankers.

Don't yell at Turner, he quit a while ago. All his channels are owned by Time-Warner. They're the ones to blame for crap like pushing back TBS's schedule five minutes and taking Andy Griffith off it.

And it's AOL/Time-Warner now.Johonebesus wrote:Don't yell at Turner, he quit a while ago. All his channels are owned by Time-Warner. They're the ones to blame for crap like pushing back TBS's schedule five minutes and taking Andy Griffith off it.
How did I not see one of the purest corporate evils fit into this?
...that sucks, but I have to admit that I think watching someone ram a toothpick into their eye with Mmm-bop playing in the background would be pretty damn funny the first couple times.Admiral Valdemar wrote: But that's all lost.
