Disney selling disposable DVDs

Post by kojikun »

48 hours and they self destruct.. I would call this a ripoff, since for barely 3 times the price you get the thing permanent like.

Can they be copied before they self erase, with something like "DVD X Copy"? The so called "blind copy" method.

And America once again retains the title of nation least likely to help the environment.

The environment is committing suicide at the gates of America.

Didn't I post this before? It's for rentals, except you don't have to give back the disc.

No, that title still belongs to countries of the ex-Communist bloc, to whom our environmental record compares favorably.

Hmm...why would I pay 5 bucks for a DVD that lasts 2 days when I could get one for 15 that would last a lifetime?

I remember seeing the website for the company that makes these things. At the time, I thought "what company is going to be stupid enough to release stuff on disposable DVDs and expect people to pay for it?" Now I know.

How is renting a DVD for 5 bucks (it's not that much, is it?) any dumber than "buying" a disposable one for 5? Some people don't really ever watch a particular movie more than once.

I bet within a couple of months someone will come up with an idea to stop the reaction that destroys the DVD's. Also couldn't someone be an ass and wreck and entire shelfs worth of DVD's if the scratched/ripped open the cases?

Stopping the reaction would require the person to buy certain chemicals and likely have to put the EZ-D through a time-consuming process. This is not something that your average person is willing to do in order to save 10-15 dollars. As to your second sentence, the consequences, for the store, would be the same if the products were Ez-Ds or regular DVDs. The store won't take the time and expense of ordering new cases for DVDs that are laying on the floor anyways.

Ah but some people might do it in bulk and then resell the DVD's on Ebay for more than they payed for in bulk for the DVD's and chems. but less than the stores. Also people could sell used expired ones on ebay and pretend that the were real DVD's without saying so, so that they woulden't get in trouble.

My roommate is Saudi. If he is remotely like the rest of the Saudi population, the US has nothing on the Middle East.

Disposable DVDs, to go with the disposable sequels they've been making recently.

I've also heard of Disney's Sleazy-Ds. You really have to wonder what genius at the Enchanted Kingdom thought this would be a better deal than what you already get from Blockbuster and Netflix.
