College Question.

Post by Anarchist Bunny »

Ok, I was wonder if anyone knew if there was a rivalry between Princeton and Cornell University.

I ask because I'm using the SAT prep CD by the Princeton review and I was reading up on Cornell(best university to go to for ornithology I hear) and it says that "The frats and sororities do their own thing, the stoners do their own thing..." Also it says that hard liquor is popular and that the students going there aren't very happy.

Not that I know of, and after 4 years of going to Princeton I'd know about this rivalry if it existed. We do have a rivalry with Harvard and Brown, the former on academic grounds and the latter on athletic ones. We believe that Harvard is a highly over-rated school since they don't require writing an honors thesis for undergrad studies, and Brown we don't like since they kicked our asses too many times in athletics. Damn neanderthal jocks!

Eek, I was strongly considering Cornell (intended major Materials Science and Engineering). I'd like to know more about this 'students not happy' bit, if you have anything on that.

Nope, it just said that studets were generally not happy. This is an Ivy-league school IIRC and this sounds just a little spiteful to be true.

Also, what year are you planning to go to Cornell?

It's a very old athletic consortium of East Coast schools. Specifically (in no particular order) Harvard University, Yale University, Brown University, Cornell University, Columbia University, The University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth University, and Princeton University.

They're very old private schools (for schools in the United States) and they all have excellent reputations. There are also a variety of stereotypes and wierd beliefs about them. Many people regard attending one as a great mark of worth, for some reason.
If you don't ask, how will you know?

The rivalry everyone always talks about is Princeton-Penn, but that may be more on Penn's part, and I am from Philadelphia.

Princeton and Rutgers had a long-standing rivalry, but I think Rutgers and Cornell go at it more now. I think.

It's a bunch of Universities on the east coast where the buildings are covered with ivy.
Actually, it's what Worlds Spanner stated.

Yeah, when they went from being Rutgers College to Rutgers University it didn't go over very well with us Princeton folks, or so I'm told since this was way before my time and I wasn't even born yet. We don't mind them too much but we're not exactly in love with them either. Actually as far as women's swimming goes I think the entire Ivy League is starting to hate us since we've only lost 1 swim meet in the last 5 years, and we got a 4 year win streak going.

The few times I visited Cornell, I was impressed by the overabundance of ugly people. However, there was an excellent bar there with the best cider I've tasted on the East Coast. I'm not certain but I believe they brewed it themselves.

There used to be a saying in NJ about Rutgers: If you can't get into college you can still go to Rutgers. And I had no idea Rutgers had a rivalry with anyone. I don't know about the rest of their athletics, but the football team..... not the most stellar reputation.

I vaguely remember someone saying that it's really hard to like living at Cornell. The person left and transferred elsewhere after the first year.
