An Egyptian lawyer said Wednesday he was planning to sue the world's Jews for "plundering" gold during the Exodus from Pharaonic Egypt thousands of years ago, based on information in the Bible.
Some Jewish commentators say that while the Biblical passage may be fact, the Hebrews were enslaved by the Egyptians and therefore had a right to claim compensation for wages.
"Hilmi's assertion that the Hebrew Bible is fact has given Israel and Jews the world over a reason to rejoice. He has opened the door for all Jews to sue Egypt for over 400 years of slavery," writer Beth Goodman told Reuters.

I think I read an article about that a few weeks ago, the Jewish lawyer said he would counter sue for lost wages for the Jewish slaves, plus interest for 3000+ years. It ended up more than what the Egptians wanted.

Also to be leagal you would have to prove you were a direct desendant of the Egyptians who were robbed. Just living in the land of Egypt does not a Ancient Egyptian make. It seems to me that this is just the Arabs picking on thier favorite target. Now is this lawyer using the hebrew bible's acount or is he using the Koran?

I can't wait for the Egyptians to try this, and then get bitchslapped by the countersuit. Besides, very few people there are direct descendants of the egyptians during those days, most are arabs brought during Islam's rise in the first millennium.

Closest I can find is Exodus 12.33-12.36:
The Egyptians urged the people to hasten their departure from the land, for they said, "We shall all be dead." So the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls wrapped up in their cloaks on their shoulder. The Israelites had done as Moses told them; they had asked the Egyptians for jewelry of silver and gold, and for clothing, and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And so they plundered the Egyptians.
However, the word "plundered" doesn't seem to fit with the seemingly voluntary "asked for" and "let them have" of the text. Additionally, reputable scholars of religion no longer believe that story is literally true. It's a lawsuit only a fundie would take seriously.
