Uh hum, Tell that to Maryland, where Lincoln had the state seized by force,
and had Habeus Corpus repealed to hold the state in by gunpoint. Out of
2,500 registered voters in Montgomery County, MD, where I live, only 50
voted for Honest Abe
Blah *southern bitching" blah.

It was worth the result.

To the point as well, the perpous of schools is not to teach about how bad the place you live is, or just give you isolated facts without a frame of reference.
School are part of the acculturation process, that binds America into a single country. English, and common values make the nation a cohesive whole.
Our virtues should be stressed, and our faults noted, not the other way round!
The idea is, we have such a good place here, and we are such a just people, that injustice, and evil is to be confronted, and dealt with, to IMPROVE ON A VERY GOOD THING.
This whole "dictatorships, theocracies, and communist hell holes like NK are just like us, only a matter of degree different" idea is what we conservatives hate.
Hmmmmmm.

Er... Maryland was a Union state, not a Confederate one...

Ah, yet another one who can't, or won't se the point.

I see you neglect to repeat the word "evil". She also used that word, remember? Funny how your manage to see "rich", "white", "slaveowning", etc. but somehow, inexplicably, your eyes just glide right on over the word "evil" without ever seeming to notice it.
With all due respect, you see to have missed my point. I agree with you.

I have (accidentally) omitted the word evil, but I think even without it, my point is still clear: I can use some words with rather negative connotations to make anyone look like anything. Winston Churchill is a drunken, nicotine addicted fop, FDR is a womanizing, Machiavellian cripple, and so forth. I am slender and I mastrubate, but it's hardly fair to label me thusly and pretend to have presented anything close to a fair or accurate picture. That's why Garafalo's statements are so absurd and unfair.

I see. My apologies then.

(I know from a Danish book about the KKK that Lincoln was reluctant to oppose slavery until he realized he could use the slavery issue as a method to gain international support, but the book also stated that this was due to pragmatism)
All right (cue epiphany), did you ever stop to think that that might just be an indicator that the United States as a whole is not as "right wing" as you think it is.
On the other hand, in the US you're labeled a socialist even if you're just left of center...

And going the other way round, you can make a dictator appear saintly...
