Lonestar Joins Western Civilization; Gets Cell Phone

Post by Lonestar »

Well, I've finally joined the rest of the planet and gotten a cell phone. Kind of nifty, actually. A nice little Siemens from Cingular. 5000 night/weekend minutes, 500 anytime rollover minutes, no roaming for damn near anywhere of importance in the country. All for $39.99 a month (plus the $50 or so I paid for the phone)

I'm pleased.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, now they can find you anywhere (Tsyroc is still outside "the world" with no cell phone and no plans to get one).

I guess it could come in handy for you while you're in the Navy. Keep those pesky babes from calling the ship and asking for you. :)

Congratulations. One warning, though, you WILL become addicted to it. I couldn't spend one day without my cell (Believe me, I tried), and you will end up the same too. Otherwise, YAY!

I couldn't hope to justify forty bucks a month when I probably spend 10min on the phone every week.

Forty dollars a month? I could spend half that on a Planetside account, and keep the extra $20. :P

Same situation form me, all a cell phone would do is take up a pocket, and this is despite me spending large amounts of time out biking and hiking. There's simply nothing that pressing in my live, and from what I've observed that's also true of my friends who do have cell phones.

first, you better check your numbers, as I don't believe it to be so expensive over there. I pay 40€ for a four months period. Alternatively, there's a no time limit package that doesn't require periodical money charge (of course, the calls are more expensive, but for someone who doesn't use the phone much it's ideal).

Secondly, even if you don't feel like needing it in your social life, it's still one of the best resources you can have in an emergency. Suppose you're ridding alone in the middle of the forest and your bike (or much worse, you) breaks something vital. A phone will save you in those situations.

I have a Siemens ME 45, and it's a tough little phone, water, shock and dirt proof, I abuse it and it keeps working.

I have one too. A friend of mine gave me one of his old Sprint phones (a Sanyo SCP-4700, never turned on) and I finally have a job that allows me to afford it (and actual cable). 500 Anytime minutes, unlimited Nights and Weekends, for $55.

No wonder USA is behind Europe when it comes to cellphone usage if you have to pay these incredibly expensive monthly sums. Here some GSM operators don't even have monthly fees, and the most expensive ones charge you 10EUR per month.

No, we're still lagging in those. I saw em in Spain and Italy, unfortunately people here decorate their phones and upgrade em and crap, I swear, my phone was 100 dollars and it was the cheapest of all my friends

oh aye my phone looks like a pint of guinness. And unlike every other phone i ever saw mine has the Red Dwarf Theme as it's ring tone, or if i'm in a bad mood the Imperial March.

Pay-as-you-go phone services exist in the US, but aren't as popular as monthly plans and contracts.

Likewise, I'm just not important enough to have a cell phone yet. The way I think of it, I have a phone at home and I have a phone at work, and if I'm in school I'm too busy to be making or taking phone calls. Maybe in a few years when I make enough money and get enough calls to justify it I'll get one.

The only time I'd need a cellphone is if I'm somewhere and I don't have money for the payphones/the payphones only do local calls and I'm out of the area I need to call. One one hand, it would be far more convienent, but on the other hand, situations likt that don't happen very often.

After a few days, I'm treating it like "My Precious". Slightly disturbing....

I used to be one of the few, proud, non-phonists, now I can't live without it.

On another note, does anyone know a ringtone site for people using an LG G5300?
