my station was intimidated by the administration and its foot soldiers at Fox News. And it did, in fact,
put a climate of fear and self-censorship, in my view, in terms of the kind of broadcast work we did."
-- Christiane Amanpour
And in response:
"Given the choice, it's better to be viewed as a foot soldier for Bush than a spokeswoman for al-Qaeda."
-- Fox News spokeswoman Irena Briganti
I don't think it gets any more fucking creepy than that.
Well this confirms a lot. No wonder Americans have this peculier thing known as Knowlegable ignorance, either that, or its mushroom syndrome, kept in the dark and fed shit.

Actually, I seriously doubt she's part of the offical outside communication channels for Fox News. I'm prepared to give them the benefit of some doubt, and just blame Irena.

You are probably right. But given how societies work it is probably indicative of the culture of that 'news' agency, which is disturbing.

In that case, when are they going to alter the meaning of various words and phrases?. That is really disturbing shit that comment of hers not to mention the other person. When news agencies become the mouth peices of the government, and virtually admit to it, one cannot but doubt American democracy as it stands.

This is probably a reference to CNN's suppressing its coverage of the brutality of the Iraq regime for fear of losing "access." The CNN woman was being insulting, so Ms. Briganti responded likewise.

I dont think she was being insulting as being honest. This is not the first time I have heard of the American media self censoring.

So what, did legions of Fox News cameraman and reporters threaten to beat up CNN personnel with socks full of nickels? What a whiner.

How the fuck would I know? It is a fact that the woman said the following
I think the press was muzzled, and I think the press self-muzzled. Certainly television and perhaps

For all we know Fox executives rang CNN and breathed hevely down the phone with subliminal background music promoting the Dubya party line.
If this Amanpour, of CNN, said this, there is probably some credence to it.

Christiane was referring to coverage of the Iraq war. Irena's reply:

There are far more effective ways to intimidate a news network than physical intimidation. If CNN had stood up for the truth, how long do you think it would have taken for Fox's attack dog squad to start writing/reporting/commentating nice, long screeds about how soft CNN is on terrorism and about their ties to Fidel Castro? Fox lies about people it disagrees with. A LOT. And they're very good at doing it, too, in ways that make its lies hard to prove - usually by couching those lies as part of "political commentary" by their "world-renowned commentators." Their court brief against Al Franken wasn't even good as toilet paper. Physical intimidation, on the other hand, is trivially easy to discredit. We live in a society which frowns on physical intimidation of the press - how hard would it have been for CNN to utterly and permanently discredit Faux News if they had started beating up CNN reporters?
Faux News. We distort, you deride.

I think it's more simple that that. FOXNews and CNN are each others biggest competitor. Naturally they are going to talk jive about each other. It's only a matter of time before Paula Zahn and Greta Van Sustren get into a hair pullin' cat fight.

That was pretty much my thoughts. Though, Ms. Briganti's rebuttle to Ms. Amanpour's BS wasn't exactly well thought out and pithy. We're just seeing to competitors go after each others throat.
It's called deflection. Don't look too closely at me and my fuck ups, they made me do it....
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots.
