Where did YOU come from?
Gil Hamilton's comment in the ASVS thread made me wonder whether he's right or not. There seems to be quite a lot of ASVSers around, but the SBers seem to be numerous as well (myself being one). So, which one of them provided more members to this board?
Have a very nice day.

I just kinda floated in from nowhere. But SDNet led me to both ASVS and SB, does that count?

I've heard of both, but came from neither. I wa a long time reader of the main SDN site, though.
The closest board you could say that I "came" from would be GundamWatch, I guess. I had the same username there, and left about two months before this one came active (I lost interest in the Gundam fan community).

I found this board from a link on the Ars Technica boards.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

This is my first serious forum, also...quite frankly, I never imagined that I would end up spending/wasting the massive amounts of time that I do here. It was a surprise to me.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
Pretty much the same here, with a little variation: I lurked around at a few different Gundam boards (Gundam Shop, Gundam Project) before coming here. I've since stopped lurking around GS, and GP went belly-up a long time ago.Stravo wrote:This was my first serious message board I ever attended and I never even heard of ASVS or Spacebattles until I came here

I never heard of ASVS or Spacebattles till I came here, I found this place when looking for articles on "economy and Star Trek" in Google.Stravo wrote:This was my first serious message board I ever attended and I never even heard of ASVS or Spacebattles until I came here
Ive hung out on other boards before, GameSpot back in the day, but this is the only place where I am a regular poster and visitor.

I came to SDN before it even had forums, I think. I LOVED reading the fanmail (hatemail) and seeing how people got FLAMERIZED. I was also positively STUNNED at the detail mike went into with respect to Weapons yield, shield characteristics and whatnot. I've always liked Star wars and THOUGHT that the empire could pretty much stomp the shit out of star trek, but I never actively engaged in debates about it, Nor had I any idea that people would go to the lengths they do to show proof of things like that (Shields and whatnot.) It is positively AMAZING, and I am happy to be a small part of it. It is also refreshing to see that there are people in the world with much the same mindset as me with regard to political issues, social and morality issues, scientific pursuits, etc.
As an aside (this will be my trademark...the whole aside thing....)
I would like to say thanks to everyone who visits the board and takes part in these discussions, the topics you guys pick are really outstanding, interesting and informative. You guys keep me awake at work! And I kinda feel like I'm part of a big family. I can almost see us all in a big room havin drinks and chit chatting about mostly harmless stuff and occaisionally breaking into two or three groups to argue over something (While still remaining mostly harmless) then, after the topic dies, and no one feels like debating it anymore, just kinda...talking about something else! No harm, no foul! I hope to be here for a long time to come, and while I may never match the levels of education and you analytical skills, I'll kick ANY ONE of your asses on Aliens Vs. Predator 2
Enough of the mushy crap. Y'all take it easy! and Keep up the good work!

I came from Spacebattles (gee what a surprising revelation). I heard about Mike's forums and every once in a while I popped in for a daily dose of disgust (enemy strong hold, heretics, that sort of thing). Then Howedar pointed me to a particular thread and my interest was piqued. Shortly after that I started making sporadic visits and started posting. Never really intended to stay, but things just worked out that way. Now I am an active duel member of both SB and SD. Things just work like that some times.

Spacebattler. Was one for a few months before curiosity finally got me to go visit this board. At that time SDnet seemed like the "opposition" to SB, so I decided to check out the "opposition".
Anyway, now I frequent several boards, and I admin one.

SCN, ( http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org and http://www.st-minutiae.com BBS, can be found at either of those sites or at scn.infopop.net). I came over here in a little flame war between the two forums (Really, more of a debate between Mike and Bernd Schneider, owner of EAS, that spilled over...) and just never really left....
Actually, I came over here and posted one or two things first off then stayed away for about a month and a half.

ASVS Represent, bitch.
Incidentally, it was Mike's site that pointed me to ASVS in the first place, way back in 1999.
