Oh that sounds familiar. I lost the best part of an afternoon to those damned queues. It's better in second year, you only have one queue to deal with then and it's only with your department so it's nice and short (ish).

I'm travelling in from home. It isn't that far from where I live and it saves a fuckload of money. Might have to find somewhere to live in Newcastle soon, though, thanks to some cunt deciding to cut the number of trains on the Hartlepool - Newcastle route in half. Yay for English public transport.
