Best: HAL's lobotomy-induced death.

Gruesome? I can't think of one.

And while it's not a movie death scene, the real-life death of Constantine XI Drageses, last Byzantine Emperor, was pretty dramatic.

Too many to mention, but they're all good so far. I have no fave.
And an honourable mention to the untimely killing of James Bond's Charles in Resident Evil in a similar fashion.Daltonator wrote:a. Millennium Actress. I won't say any more.

EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW! Why'd you have to recall that one for me! *shudders, recalling how the camera was focused on the eyeball before the head started sliding off...*Admiral Valdemar wrote:Too many to mention, but they're all good so far. I have no fave.

My 2 favorites:
The death of the Resolute on Exosquad, and the destruction of the Messiah spacecraft on Deep Impact.
The death of the Resolute was cool from the standpoint that Captain Marcus tenaciously held on to his duty and command. The line "As long as the Resolute can still maneuver, she can still fight, I will not leave my ship!" is great.
In the case of the Messiah, the way the crew made their decision to fly into the comet and detonate the nuke aboard the ship, thinking only about the people of Earth was just amazing. Not to mention the last sequence showing the ship heading into the comet then the explosion of the nuke. It was just plain cool.

The deaths of any of the crooks in The Boondock Saints were pretty cool, especially with the little prayer they always said.
Of course, Boromir's death is a classic, and I think the addition of Lurtz was an excellant change.
Dante's death in Clerks was...interesting, and I thought it was a bit creepy, actually.
Maximus' death scene in Gladiator would have been a bit cooler if it hadn't been so long and drawn out.

I don't remember if the movie version I saw did the whole scene, but Hamlet is a classic.
"I am dead, Horatio." Ten minutes later: "I die, Horatio." Five minutes after that, he finally expires, leaving Horatio the only character to survive.

Did you know that the scene was originally written as a big fight with Jones using his whip? Unfortunately, Ford was suffering dysentery with severe cramps and wasn't up to doing the scene as written, so he just pulled out a gun instead. That's why he looks kind of green in that scene.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Indiana Jones.

The best death sence that I saw in a flick was in the 1984 flick Excalber at the end when King Athuer and Mordread off eachother was well as the whole ficked up fight sence leading up to that.
As for the goriest death sence that I had ever seen in a flick would be the one in hambuger hill where the old VC deude get's his head blown off by and M-60 or the realy cool exploading head in the frist scaners flick

Best: General Hummel, The Rock - "What have I done...?"
Gruesome: PVT Pyle, Full Metal Jacket - Best blown out brain scene, IMO
And creepy, too - [Heavy Breathing]"Seven point six two...full metal jacket..."[/HeavyBreathing] It sounded like he was having an orgasm saying those stats...I can easily picture Sea Skimmer sounding like that talking about tanks.
Of course, one can also put up R. Lee Ermy's death in there too as the best: "What is your major malfunction?" *BLAM*
