What ever happened to Gorby, I never saw again in any publication whatsoever, after Yeltsin took over, did he kill anyone directly or indirectly during his reign?
IIRC Gorbachev did a Pizza Hut ad.

Why? Just accept it and fucking survive, thats whats important, who cares if the US is daring them?
Do like China instead, they're hardly the top dog, but if they bide their time they might very well become just that.

I don't mean to be stereotypical, but Russian leadership tended to be paranoid and prideful.

Interesting observation. The Russians blaim their own collapse on their inability to assimilate conquered lands, and their lack of friends; but claim that the hard times (from miiltary spending) didn't have anythign to do with it.

Of course, take anything said there with a boulder of salt. In the lead up to GWII, Pravda seriously claimed aliens from outer space crashed in Iraq and were helping Saddam. After the war, they claimed that the US couldn't fight Russia in the same way b/c Russian technology (in lasers, "plasma weapons" etc) is "at least" 50 years ahead of the US.
They were also claiming that if Iraq had taken deliverey of a dozen or two Mig-31s that they claim was planed and blocked by the US, the US would not have dared to attack it as their air force would have been up against very badass competition, all the cruise missiles would have been shot down e.t.c.

EDIT.

Ah here it is :D
If the Iraqi army had several regiments of MiG-31 jets, it is not ruled out that there would be absolutely no war. No aircraft carrier or a bomber plane of the US army would venture to approach the Iraqi border on account of a possibility to be destroyed. The majority of missiles that the US forces launched from their cruisers and planes would also be shot with those battle planes. Sergey Permyakov, a member of the Perm Motors- Board of Directors said:

....

feel very anxious when I watch news reports about the war. It is painful for me to see the Iraqi people so helpless. However, the anxiety goes by, when I hear MiG-31 flying somewhere nearby. I feel calmer, when I think that the Russian army has modern defense technology. However, what can we oppose to those, who will have a wish to defend us and our different point of view regarding the world order?

?It becomes obvious today that the euphoria of eternal friendship with the American nation that developed in Russia during Boris Yeltsin-s era has to give way to sober pragmatism and calculation in all international affairs. Those people, who deal with it, have to deal with it.¦
Its highly entertaining fiction :)
Love those Russians.

The presence of 12-24 MiG-31s would've resulted in several more Coalition air losses, and more in that for cruise missile losses. To go from that to no war is hype the likes of which I can't believe ...

It's patent nonsense that the MiG-31 was offered to Iraq- the Soviet Union was still around remember and they were very cagey about giving away anything more than 'export-designate' models- MiG-23s and MiG-29s, for the most part, though MiG-25s were exported as well, I'll grant. They wouldn't even give them to China (who'd want to, those reverse engineering no-originality wankers), and there's no way in hell you could train up Iraqi pilots and technicians to deal with the MiG-31 system in such a small time frame. It's way too complicated.

The MiG-25 really was just an expensive and not very useful toy for everyone who bought the interceptor. And of course, the only started doing that after the US had taken one apart..
