I've always seen SD.net (well, not always but most of the time) as a between ground for SB and ASVS. SD.net has certain things that are in common with both SB and ASVS, but it also has certain things neither one could ever have. Its much less moderated then SB, but has moderation which ASVS has none. Its a message board, but its a message board run by people that most ASVS members would find acceptable for entrance. Its also a more familar ground to meet and talk that SB members find pleasent. While neither side has always been happy, SD.net has worked out quite well. It attracted a fair number of members from both ASVS and SB while also grabbing a few new ones at the same time. However, while SD.net is a go-between, it is slowly replacing ASVS if not outright killing it.
