Has anyone played it?
Did it suck?

It thought it looked intresting on the cover but usually when I get that impression, the game sucks...

The game sucks, short and simplistic I regret that I bought it.

The movie is far better.

As I suspected then.

Unfortunately I haven't seen the movie yet. I like the way they translated the title into Swedish, though; from "Pirates of the Caribean" to "Svarta Pärlans Förbannelse" (Curse of the Black Pearl).

BTW, is the game based on the film or do they just share names?

The game was originally Sea Dogs II, but they changed the name at the last minute to help capitalize on the movie.

Well, the full title is Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl; so the translation actually does make sense.

The game isn't that bad. Though the controls take some getting used to.

  Well in that case they only translated half of the title. But they could've just left it alone IMO. They probably translated (half of) it because it's a Disney movie!

If you bought it expecting it to be Morrowind With Boats, you're gonna be disappointed. The land-based aspects, such as exploring or swordfighting, are pretty simplistic (fun, though simplistic).

The beauty of this game is the boating, which kicks so much ass it's amazing that they don't include it in every game. Hell, Doom 3 should randomly have a sea battle, for no reason, just for the cool factor. There are few things more satisfying than acquiring a fleet of Class 1 battleships and just absolutely bitch-whomping some bastard pirates that come after you, or, better yet, pouncing on some poor unsuspecting merchant fleet.

Pirates of the Carribean is Sea Dogs II, rushed to completion under a different title. It has nothing to do with the movie, except for the new name and some BS tacked onto the main quest.

Go find the original Sea Dogs. Graphics aren't quite as good, but you have pretty much all the same features + a much larger gameworld, since the original wasn't pushed out the door early.

It's pretty sad that we haven't seen any good pirate games since the old Commodore 64 (and NES) 'Pirates!'. That game kicked some major arse.
