Ah, taking the only test that universities actually give a shit about. Good. :)

Good luck.

Remember, most of the answers are C...

No no no, the answer is C unless after B or before A. :P

In multiple choicetests the frequency of the response from highest to lowest is:
C
B
D
A

So if you have no clue eliminate the two obviously incorrect answers and select from whichever of the remaining two is the highest on that list.

Well, I'm done. I think I did ok, I didn't leave any blank, but I'm kinda disappointed on the math section, I had to fill 2 in as c. Bunch of geometry(my only weakness in math) bogged me down. I was able to fill in the rest in the time allotted. Writing went the smothest, the ACT CD I used was really helpful, I kinda had to rush the end of the Reading and Science sections, but I don't think I did any worse on them, just did the questions that directed me to a specific lines, then sections, then the last couple which were general questions just over the paragraphs til I found what it was talking about.

The prompter for the test fucked up though. We were told to be in the Academic Center in Room 000 and there would be signs on the front doors. 10 minutes before testing was to start, no signs were up, no ACT people were there, and only about 1/3rd of us fit into the room. Eventually he showed up divided us into 3 rooms and with 2 people who looked he found on the street to make sure we didn't cheat.

I'm sure you'll do well. Those tests are ridiculously easy...I got a 30 myself when I took it in my Junior year, April 2002 (top 3% national). Then there are those who get a 19he , and jump from joy because they beat Mississippi's state average of 18...

Never took the ACT, we were never offered it. We had SATs instead. Which, by the way, is when in doubt, answer A.

ACTs? Bah, who needs 'em? *is quite content with his 1330 SAT*

It worked for what I wanted, and you brainiacs who get higher can go to Hell: it was my first time out, and I didn't feel like taking it over. Well, I did, but I lost 20 points somehow. So I decided to Hell with it. :)

But, seriously, who cares? It's not what you know on soime stupid test, it's what you can actually use in real life to get through it in one piece. SATs/ACTs are the nerdy dick-waving contests. :D

The only people who say that are people who don't like being told that theres a large number of people smarter or more capable then them. The whole point of these tests are to ensure that universities are not wasting time nor money teaching people who just won't get it. Thats why the percentages in tests like the ACT don't tell you the percentage of total questions you got correct but rather what percentage of the test takers got more wrong then you did. In other words, its not determining absolute knowledge but relative knowledge. Thats why there is no 100% on the ACT, because if 100% of the test takers scored lower then you, you too must have scored lower then yourself.

It all comes down to whether or not you are a valuable investment for a university or not. Thats why better universities like MIT require higher scores -- they're spending alot of money teaching you quality information, they want to make sure you'll be worth it. Oh, and it IS what you know on a stupid test, because without sufficient knowledge you can't make the kind of money you'd like to make.

SAT test, back in 1988.

1400-something, closer to 1500. Best on the English and Social Studies parts, worst on the mathematics.

Scary how I can recall that.....

I never took the ACTs...I did take the SATs, which I got a 1290 cumulative on. Not that it matters anymore since I already have my degree ;)

You must have taken an SAT-II in there, since Social Studies isn't offered as part of the SATs themselves (which are math and english).

To my knowledge, it's always been English and Math. It was like that when my parents took it in sixties at least.

Or maybe I'm confusing it with a different test from that era. *shrugs*
