Depends are you planning on being a slimy Johnny Cochran, I Sold My Soul to Satan, lawyer or a decent fair and honest one? And before any one says there are no such thing as an honest lawyer, my dad was one like that before he passed away.

Course you're planning on going into politics so I'd say you want to be the first kind.

You plan to become a lawyer? Egads, I can accept gay people, but lawyers?

I think lawyers shouldn't be allowed to marry. Think about it; is a lawyer-led household a suitable environment to raise a child? What kind of values would they impart to an impressionable young mind, with their lawyer lifestyle? What kind of company do they keep? Are lawyers even capable of maintaining a committed long-term relationship? These are all serious questions which the lawyer lobby refuses to answer. We at the family values/anti-lawyer coalition oppose granting lawyers the right to marry!!!!!

On the story: Disgusting. Would I neccessarily blame religion? No, these sick fucks would beat their kids whether the lord said so or not.

As for disciplining children, I always assumed I would correct my children with a solid spanking, since my dad used to chase me around the house with his belt and let me tell you, I learned my lessons. (NO it was not abuse, I deserved every beating I took, beating whoch consisted of two or three hits with the thing and besides, its a latin parent thing. ) But I have NEVER struck my child. She has done some stupid things but I found, much to my shock, that a firm voice and scowl is more than enought to get a child to do things correctly.

I am very proud of the fact that among my peers I am constantly complimented on how well behaved my daughter is, and all I do is look at her crossly and she immediately does as she's told...so I changed my attitude from a firm believer in corporal punishment to a firm beliver in telling your kids NO and sticking to it. I HATE these parents who cave in on their children's requests because they're afraid their kid will cry, etc. Guess what? Kids cry, so let em. They have to learn that you mean what you say. Once a child learns that you are the final arbitor and will not bend no matter what they do....they will fall in line.

Hey, my dad was a lawyer. And a good and honest one. True they are a minority in the business but they do exist.

My dad was a great father and husband. He raised me my brother and sister just fine thank you. And I miss him a lot. I'd really appreciate you not making such a low blow joke.

Obviously, not everyone thought it was funny. You never know, though; he might have laughed at it. Every lawyer I ever met had his own supply of lawyer jokes at the ready.

As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is naturally a Harbinger of Doom. Sorry.

As for the fear factor in child discipline: My "Little Sister" can now perform "The Look" (You know, that Female super ability to give any child a primial "gazzell in a field surrounded by Lions" feeling with just a stare). I saw my sister using it on my niece last Chirstmass, and I was intinmidated.

Sorry, i just kind of snapped. It's only been three weeks and I'm still a lot on edge about things like that. He did laugh at lawyer jokes and I told him a few myself. But that one was just a little personal.

Your already beyond hope I'm afraid. But don't worry, Navy SEAL's and Marines are on the way to properly correct the problem.

Sucks about your dad. My parents have only ever spanked me twice, and even now that they're devoicing I still have good relations with both.

At what point did we go from Child Discipline vs. Child Abuse to fantasies about the apocalypse?

Many women have the "evil eye" (not all women; Rebecca has tried, but she just can't do it because of her big doe-eyes; she just can't look malevolent).

Men have the "bark". Sometimes, the bark is worse than the bite (this is the case with me). Sometimes, the opposite is true. And sometimes, it's just all bad (as is undoubtedly the case with the donkey-fuckers at the PEI commune in the article).

Texas Man Charged for Using Stungun on Stepson
Sat Sep 28, 2:58 PM ET

SWEENY, Texas (Reuters) - Police arrested a Texas man on child abuse charges on Friday after he allegedly used a 100,000-volt stun gun to discipline his 8-year-old stepson for missing the school bus.

Theodore Moody, 27, was charged with two counts of felony injury to a child and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The boy's mother, Tsianina Moody, was charged for failure to report the abuse, for which she could be jailed for up to two years, said Brazoria County Sheriff's Investigator Buck Henson.

Moody, a stay-at-home father who quit his job as a truck driver this year, allegedly walked behind the child all the way to school on Monday and zapped him with the stun gun.

The device is sold as a self-defense tool and designed to incapacitate attackers with an electrical charge. Police said Moody's stun gun delivered a shock akin to a bad bee sting.

Moody told the Houston Chronicle he found it the only effective method of discipline with the boy.

"The belt didn't work; this did. It hurts much less than the belt. I've whipped his ass so hard that it left marks. That just didn't send the message and this did," he told the paper.

Clad in a sleeveless T-shirt, two-tone sunglasses and a cap that read "Marriage: the Leading Cause of Divorce," Moody appeared on TV news shows holding a stun gun he purchased after police took the original one and a paddle he said he used on the boy so much that it cracked.

Investigators were delighted with his comments. "He's pretty well used the right of free speech here, didn't he? The news media helped and awful lot on this one," said Henson.

Moody was being held in lieu of $15,000 bond, and his wife, in lieu of $4,000. Neither could be reached.

All four of the Moody's children were placed in foster care, after the stun gun incident, said Child Protective Services spokeswoman Estella Olguin. The couple have two children together, ages 2 and 3, and Mrs. Moody has a daughter, 11, and the boy. A judge is set to decide on Tuesday whether the children will remain in state custody.

Sweeny is about 65 miles southwest of Houston.
