College Football!

Rather than starting a whole new thread, might as well just use this one.
Another great day for college football! I could go on and on about how satisfied I am with my team after the SC game (and how pissed off I am at the damn refs for ruining our shutout), but I won't do that.
Arkansas vs. Texas...wow. One of the most satisfying games I've ever seen. I've always liked Arkansas, even when we played them last year in the SEC championship, and nothing could have made me more happy than to watch those overrated Horns get throttled by them. Finally, justice is brought on the evil that is Texas.
Ohio State vs. NC State...if Kelly were still here, we'd be hearing about this one. I hate Ohio State, I hated them before that damned referee handed them the national championship last week, I hated them before they barely got by San Jose friggin' state last year, and I hate them even more after today. If there is any justice in the sport of football, Ohio State will fall soon, and they will fall hard.
Michigan vs. Notre Dame...always good to see Notre Dame lose, but I was hoping Michigan would take this one and move my boys up in the rankings. Oh well.
For tonight; Kentucky-Bama and GaTech-FSU. Two entertaining games.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
It's halftime for Tech-FSU also. Despite not putting a lot of points on the board (partially due to Chan Gailey's lousy play calling), Tech is looking damn impressive. Their defense thus far has completely shut down the FSU offense, and Reggie Ball (an 18-year old!) is looking as confident as a senior QB. Suddenly I'm a bit more worried about playing Tech than I was two weeks ago.
As for Bama-Kentucky, I say Bama wins.

And so they did, but it was a lethargic victory, despite Shaud Williams' heroics on the gridiron. This "really picking up in the second half" stuff needs to go four quarters -- not just the last two. There are no easy games left on Bama's schedule, and unfortunately I'll be deployed for quite a few of them.Durran Korr wrote:As for Bama-Kentucky, I say Bama wins.
Wow, what a finish for OSU, who just seems to find ways to pull victories from their fourth points of contact! Hell of a fight from NC State, but what was with those final play-calls -- two quarterback sneaks???
Arkansas showed Texas what the SEC is made of and paid no attention to their roll as the underdog. Way to go, Hawgs!
...oh, and Auburn finally won a game too...

Trojans win! Sweet!
Hawkeyes defeat Cyclones in the most important game I Watched today. The tradition of being mind numbingly drawn to that rivalry still stands fer me, and its still enoyable.
Other good things:
Ohio State shows that it needs Clarett! They will lose two conerence games this year IMHO.
Texas loses! Yay! No more late season letdowns, now the letdown is already out of the way! HAHAHAHah

UofM crush Notre Dame, UofM SMASH!!! 38-0; hail to victors punk! Navarre delivers the ownage in only a way a UofM QB could.
In other news, MSU lost. What a surprise. Losers.
They're useless assfucking overrated twats who got the shit beat out them last year in Ann Arbor: A time honored traditon for all Michiganders! How they get rated so high I don't know, but we'll knock 'em of their high horse sooner or later.Durran Korr wrote:What the fuck is it with Ohio State?

Uh, Michigan lost to Ohio State last year, leading to Ohio State's eventual national championship. Unfortunately for the rest of college football.

UNA beats 1AA rival
My Alma Mater, the University of North Alabama appears to be making its long-overdue comeback in football. UNA beat rival Jacksonville State at JSU by a score of 28 to 16. What is significant about the victory is that JSU is a 1AA football program, while UNA is only a Division II football program. UNA could be in the running for their fourth Division II Football National Championship if they keep up their performance. As of yet, they're not ranked, but that is likely to change within the next couple of days, in light of their victory over JSU.

My (optimistic) outlook on the rest of Tech's schedule
Clemson - Tommy Bowden better start looking for a new job (GT)
Vanderbilt - Do we need to even consider this one? (GT)
NC State - The wolfback nearly beat no 3 OSU and Rivers is a heisman candidate, so unless OSU is hideously overrated, we're looking at a very sorry homecoming, this btw is the hardest game on the schedule, even harder than Georgia (NCSU)
Wake Forest - I really don't know enough about this team to diagnose so I say GT
Maryland - Nothing would please me more than to see GT make Fridge regret he ever left (GT)
Duke - Do we need to even consider this one? (GT)
North Carolina - Right now I predict GT
Virginia - History hasn't been to kind to us at UVA (Virginia)
Georgia - If Our defense is able to block Greene passes, and our Offense can protect Ball then we can come off with a win, otherwise we will see FSU part 2 (Georgia)
So the outlook for Gatech 7-5 (5-3 ACC) not a great finish, but better than what we are predicted to finish (4-7)

I wasn't able to watch the game but what I read about it makes me a little concerned about Iowa's offense. I guess we'll see how they do next week against ASU.Darth Fanboy wrote: Hawkeyes defeat Cyclones in the most important game I Watched today. On the local front and my alma mater, Arizona got it's ass spanked six ways 'til Sunday for the second week in a row. It's going to be a loooooong Pac-10 season but I bet it's going to be a much shorter time period before people start wanting a new coach.
Not a big Michigan fan (although the game with Iowa last year was enjoyable) it was nice to see them take it to Notre Dame.
Also on the Big 10, what happened with Wisconsin? They only scored 5 points against UNLV. With John Robinson coaching UNLV I can understand an upset but Wisconsin couldn't score more than 5 points?.

ESPN's Bottom 10
ESPN's Bottom 10
Well, the full Arizona team broke into the "Bottom 10" where last week it was just the defense. It doesn't look any better that the one team they defeated this year is considered the #2 worst team in major college football (UTEP).
On a related note I don't feel any happier that one of Iowa's wins came against Buffalo, the #1 worst team in major college football. Makes me rather nervous about the rest of the season. I'll feel better if they can beat ASU and/or put in a good showing. [/url]

Oh yeah. As of today we Arizona has had it's first "we support the coach blah blah blah" public announcement from the athletic director and the players.
The really funny part was the pep talk I heard by Purdue coach Joe Tiller. He was really talking up Arizona and blamed the teams woes on playing two rated teams in a rebuilding year.
If Purdue doesn't kick Arizona's ass I'll be really surprised.

Another great weekend of college football starting tomorrow. Here are some of this weekend's biggest games:
1) No. 1 Miami vs. Boston College
2) No. 5 Michigan vs. No. 22 Oregon
3) No. 7 Georgia vs. No. 10 LSU
4) No. 9 FSU vs. Colorado
5) No. 12 Tennessee vs. No. 17 Florida
6) No. 12 Iowa vs. No. 16 ASU
7) Georgia Tech vs. Clemson
and my picks:
1) Miami, although BC won't roll over and let themselves get beat. BC has often been a thorn in the side of Miami, and has pulled off quality wins against Penn State and Connecticut. Miami 35, BC 20.
2) Michigan, easily. One of the best teams in the country, coming off an extremely impressive win against Notre Dame. Michigan 32, Oregon 14.
3) I could go on and on for pages about this game. I've been waiting for it all week; I haven't been able to concentrate, I haven't been able to study, I haven't been able to sleep. In any case, at this point, this is clearly the most important SEC game of the year, and it may end up being a preview of the SEC Championship game. LSU hasn't really played anyone yet but appears to be a very strong team, especially with Matt Mauck at QB. Georgia has proven itself to be better than anyone expected, pulling off impressive wins against Clemson and South Carolina, with QB David Greene running the offense (and generating Heisman buzz), with David Pollack making a huge impact at DE despite having a rather modest stats thus far. I'm sure my signature destroys any objectivity that I may have had, but I favor Georgia in this game. LSU is a great team with everything in place to win, and Death Valley is a terrible place for a visiting team to play. But Georgia is arguably the best road team in the country, and the defense is just astounding, especially against quarterbacks. Many have called the injuries and suspensions into play, but the same objections could have been raised before the Clemson and South Carolina games. Georgia 30, LSU 17, in a truly great SEC battle.
4) FSU, since Colorado blows. FSU 28, Colorado 10.
5) Another important SEC matchup. Tennessee looks rather solid, and Florida is coming off a too-close-for-the-comfort-of-everyone-else-in-the-SEC loss to Miami. Florida just looks like the better team here to me, although Tennessee will be quite eager to avenge last year's embarassment at Neyland. But I favor Florida to win this game. Florida 28, Tennessee 24.
6) Haven't watched either of these teams, but my hatred of the Big 10 and the fact that I was an ASU fan when I was little induces me to root for the Sun Devils. ASU 28, Iowa 17.
7) Tech looked impressive against both Auburn and FSU, despite not winning the latter. I'm pulling for Clemson, but I expect Tech to win. Tech 21, Clemson 17.
And just for fun...
Ohio State vs. Bowling Green. Bowling Green 5,002, Ohio State 2. They get a safety.
1) No. 1 Miami vs. Boston College
2) No. 5 Michigan vs. No. 22 Oregon
3) No. 7 Georgia vs. No. 10 LSU

And the spawn of Satan went down to defeat in Iowa City even if the Hawkeye offense started out playing poorly. 21-2 wtf? Still, I think they lucked out because that safety really should have been a touchdown. ASU barely missed falling on the ball.
On another note, Arizona got spanked by Purdue. Apparently Coach Makovic wouldn't shake Coach Tiller's hand afterwards because he was pissed that Purdue's backups had scored 3 touchdowns on the Wildcats in the fourth quarter.
Lot of upsets this week with Michigan losing and Notre Dame lost again.

Iowa, Oregon, Missouri, and USC!!!!!
but the most overlooked upset of the day will be the University of northern Iowa Panthers ROUTING of 1-AA 11th ranked northwestern State.
Go Panthers! MArching on to the playoffs! Because in I-AA there is no fucking around when it comes to a clear champeen!

I cannot fucking believe that USC lost to Cal. Absolutely-fucking-cannot believe it. Biggest shock of the season, by far. And Iowa losing to MSU! What the fuck!

Tech was nearly frosted again.
At least this time, they decided to get good at the last minute and played as if they were a top 25 team.
Despite the win though, we play our second hardest game of the season (after UGA) next week, when NC State comes to town.
Regardless of the fact that they gave up so many points to UNC this week, NC State is one of the best teams in the nation, I don't care what the polls say.

The ASU offense continued to stink up the field with their shitty performance. The ASU defense continued to strive to keep the team in the game long after the offense had lost it.
On the bright side, WSU delivered a truly monstrous ass-whooping to Oregon.

Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
Iowa coughed up the ball alot against MSU. That's what killed them last year against Iowa State and it didn't help them against MSU this year.Durran Korr wrote:HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

I'm also still concerned about their offense. I just don't think it's good enough for them to contend for a major bowl.
As for the rest, if they don't make so many mistakes they'll do well but considering how ASU got stomped by Oregan State this week I'm still not sure that Iowa is acutally a good team since it's looking rather questionable that they've beaten any good teams yet.
That was nice.Howedar wrote: On the bright side, WSU delivered a truly monstrous ass-whooping to Oregon.
I also can't complain about USC losing to Cal.
Arizona had a chance to win against TCU but ended up losing in OT. This might end up being one of those 1-11 years unless something freaky happens with their remaining Pac-10 schedule.
