This was Abner Luema here in NYC, and it was a plunger handle they used to sodomize him. A horrible incident of brutality. But I wouldn't put in the category of "embarrassing." It's hard to be embarrassed by something forcefully done to you. Humiliating, though, yes.

Both sound like urban legends. Using a hard wooden object like a broom or plunger handle wouldn't be pleasurable, and I doubt anyone would do it to themselves.
