I suppose it'd be fun for you if everytime--EVERYTIME--you turn a corner you suddenly get killed from nowhere? Or if you're in the middle of a fight, suddenly the both of you get railed one right after another? Or if some guy hides out in a place overlooking the entire map and just picks off everyone while everyone else is trying to deal with each other and the camper at the same time?

I don't suppose you've met serious campers in quake 3 railgun-only before, have you?

I tend to stick to the more "realistic" shooters, so I don't have a problem with most "camping". I, however, do make a distinction: What most people call camping, I call defending. A guy who sets up his Browning .30 to cover an alley in DoD and sitting there for 15 minutes killing anyone who enters is defending, not "camping". I define camping as going prone on top of a table right next to the only door to a tiny room and setting up your MG42 just right so you can't be touched unless they actually enter the room while you can shoot them at point-blank.

I won't deny that in some games, camping is righteously expected.

In Natural Selection, you are expected to camp and bile bomb if you're a gorge, for example.

Quake 3 isn't a camping-oriented game though.

Also, it's not camping if the object you have your sights on happens to be your flag. Someone grabs the thing by George you should at least have a chance to pop a rail through his head.

Almost. But sometimes you get lucky. Plus there are situations where you may have a few teammates willing to wax the craven camper. Usually just keybind something to teamsay 'Sniper Up HIGH!' and I promise you someone will get the message and thank you for telling them about the dipshit who's just sitting there up on that tower...

I repeat, if it bothers you that much then change servers. If he was pissing me off as much as he's pissing you off, that's what I'd do.

I once played AvP on a server where the first person to be killed in a match had to spend the next round as a spectator whoes sole job was to find campers and tell everyone where they were, and if possible who they were. Hunting them down was brilliant. Unfortuantely the servr closed down ages ago.

In team games, some level of camping is encouraged. In Renegade, if your ass grabbed the Sniper or Havoc, your ass better be in a defendable position, cleaning the way for the vehicles. If a stealth trooper finds you, or worse, you get surprised by a vehicle, it's your ass. The addition of vehicles that laugh off sniper rounds made it much more balanced. Some bitch is camping the entrance to the base? Call in a fucking tank!

Tribes took a different route, making the sniper rifle a nearly useless weapon, IMHO. Sure, you can pop other Light suits, but when a Heavy comes your way, you might as well surrender. Most snipers adapted without bitching, becoming targetting gimps for the Big Guys or vehicle pilots.

Of course, UT had alot of camper-friendly maps. Assault - Normandy was apparently built by a career camper. But all the camping spots, even on Facing Worlds, are two way streets.. Which means incoming fire has the right of way.

Isn't that exactly what the original post said? Get the problem solved at the server end? He's arguing with somebody who flames any server which doesn't allow camping in any game.

I actually got him to leave. After that, everyone found the game much more enjoyable.
