There's various industrial equipment & electronics surplus places that sell these things. I've seen kW range Nd:YAG lasers up for sale, and various lab bench lasers in the 10-100W range. They don't generally sell to individuals, but all you need is a business or company ID of some sort or claim to be a university student doing some graduate research and they'll sell it to you. They're not nuclear weapons you know.MKSheppard wrote:Anyone call BS on this?Hyperion wrote: 1 17watt CW cutting laser in a home-made portable bazooka-size system. They are nice, I do like mine. The wife has her Bernette crossbow, and I have an asortment of knifes (go figure) and a few show pieces like swords and such. OH, and two fur covered razor blades, if you want to count the dogs.Winchester 1300
On the list, .40 USP.

Aside from a buck knife I aquired around 15 years ago through..ahem...teenage thievery. I do not have any honest to goodness weapons.
Of course the garage has all sorts of improvised weapons. Crowbar, prybar, screwdrivers, my Leatherman, etc.
I really dont have a need for much, Id like to have a .22 for shooting cans and bottles and stuff, but I dont have any land.

* .22 cal. handgun
* .38 single action handgun
* pump-action shotgun
various: nunchuks, machete.
The three guns were inherited. After my dad died in '92, I rented a couple gun cleaning videos and cleaned the two handguns. I then put them in a PVC "Bianchi" bag, and have never touched them since.
The .38 is a heavy brick of a gun that is exactly like the one Indiana Jones carries in "The Last Crusade." I can't recall if his is a double or single action, though.
I never found a shotgun cleaning video, so the shotgun has remained untouched since '92.
And believe it or not, I've never fired a real gun in my life.

Cleaning a shotgun is nothing special, IIRC.

Have you tried them steel on steel combat with an edge?Solauren wrote:I've used them already. Besides the Swords of Darkness, they are all damn good.
No, I have no idea how well they would fare against a traditionally forged Katana, but they do wonders against old furniture, 2x4's, baseball bats, each other, metal bars, hockey sticks
440 is at the better end of materials used for mass produced swords, but to be honest, it'll still get broken in a full on contact with another blade.
I'd be intrested if you still have the order codes on those items, I know for sure the swords of darkness are pure decorative shit, but the highlander knock off might be one of the others apart from the UC piece, which would mean something a little tougher than a rat tail tang, but that wouldn't alter it's fate in any real blade to blade contact.

Go to the nearest store that sells sporting goods and buy a shotgun cleaning kit. In this kit should be oil, bore solvent, a cleaning rod, and tips for the rod. You need an old oil rag or towel, too, and make sure it doesn't have any particles in it that will scratch or mar the finish or blueing on the metal.Lord Poe wrote: I never found a shotgun cleaning video, so the shotgun has remained untouched since '92.
Now, for the most pump shotguns, you just unscrew the cap at the end of the magazine and pull off the barrel. Like Shep said, make sure it is unloaded. You might have to pull the action forward about half way to be able to slide the barrel off. Once you get the barrel off, simple take the rod and swab, put some bore solvent on it, and run it down the barrel a few times. After this, put some oil on the same swab, and repeat. Take your rag, put some oil on it, and clean every single exposed metal part of the gun. Clean anything metal that you can even see. Try not to get much oil on the stock or any wooden furniture on the gun, as it can potentially soften the wood, which is not a good thing. If the stock needs polishing, take some wooden furniture cleaner (something like Old English), spray it on a clean towel, and rub down the wooden parts. After that, slide the barrel back on the way you took it off, and screw the magazine cap back on. Your gun will be like it was the day you took it out of the box! If you bought the gun new, then your owner's manual should have instructions for cleaning in it, anyways, and if not, you can always get one for free from the maker. Now, I'm just going off my knowledge of how to clean a Remington 870 and Benelli Nova, but almost every semi-auto and pump shotgun I have come across has basically the same way of disassembly. Unscrew the magazine cap and pull the barrel off.
Hope this helps.

As of this moment I own:
Projectile Weapons:
(1) single-shot breech-loading .410 Browning shotgun, circa 1950s.
Bladed weapons.
(1) 440 stainless steel scimitar. Fully sharpened wall-hanger. Currently employed in decorating my office. 47" long.
(1) 440 stainless steel Egyptian kopesh (I am seen wielding this in the publicly available picture of me.) Fully sharpened. Very useful as a light/medium duty outdoor knife. 24" long in total.
(1) Genuine high-carbon spring steel Chinese broadsword with hardwood scabbard. Quite capable of doing serious damage. And I am starting to train on how to use it.
Not so bladed weapons.
(1) Cherrywood bokken.
(1) Home-made sword mock-up consisting of a 3/4"x36" dowel, a combination of plastic and metal piping, and some masking tape. Very well balanced.

Honestly, a well-forged sword made from actual combat-grade steel will cause a stainless steel sword to shatter like it were made of glass. It's the chromium in the stainless steel, you see. Makes the metal very inflexible and rather brittle (good qualities in a small knife, really bad qualities in steel used for a sword.) Of course a stainless steel sword will cut through wood. Wood is not the unyielding surface that another blade is.Solauren wrote:I've used them already.
