terrestrial species in the SW galaxy

Post by Enola Straight »

What other Earth species besides humans are in the Star Wars Galaxy?

Cats, Dogs, Horses?

Is the Millenium Falcon named after the Earth bird?

The starwars.com database has stuff on ducks.
No conscience. No law. No stopping them....

The ANH novelisation mentions a (barking) dog in Anchorhead and also that Luke had a dog before.

I think that was Anakin in Rogue Planet. I read a quote on Star Wars.com about it once...

No, it was luke and ANH. Obi-wan used a phrase that involved ducks. Plympto is right.

In TPM, Captain Panaka complained that they were "sitting ducks" when the Queen's Yacht was flying towards the blockade.

There are statues in Theed of what appear to be horses. Also, the Ewoks live action TV crap made use of many horses.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

The book The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide, by Terryl Whitlatch and Bob Carrau, seems to imply that the horse statues in Theed are really of Guarlaras, not horses. Guarlaras look like horses, except for they're a little more alien. It's entirely possible, since we don't get too close a look at the statues in either movie, but I'd bet that the ILM modellers just used horses.

The book also mentions that "Wild greysors are bothered by fleas." So, fleas exist in Star Wars, unfortunately.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Aha, I found the passage I was looking for.
The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide wrote:The origins of the Ewok pony are mysterious. The species equus is found on several planets, including a large, black breed ridden by the Dathomir witches. Ewok ponies run wild in the open woodlands and plains of Endor, but are also kept as transport animals by Ewoks. Brave, tough, and swift, these ponies do not exceed one meter at the shoulder. Larger equines are kept by the Marauders.
I like Mike's explanation (from his fanfic): When the humans travelled back in time from our galaxy to the Skywalker galaxy, they took horses and stuff with them.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Shatterpoint has akk dogs. If you include flora as well there's all sorts of stuff.

Krayt dragons are another, seen in a lot of sources.

Galaxies is not an ultra-canon source like the movies or novelizations, but we accept a lot of the other PC games' material. There's a ton of stuff in there - sludge panthers, nightspiders and hermit spiders, crystal snakes...
On the Guarlaras, in the game you do see llama/horse-type creatures called Gualamas on Naboo. Related, perhaps?

Gualamas and Guarlaras are different, but similar. Gualamas are slender, white, equine-ish things with curvy horns. Guarlaras are large, black equine-ish things that look like clydesdales with curvy horns. Guarlaras are only allowed to be ridden by the monarch, according to Naboo custom.
The book confirms that "They are related to gualamas, but are much more massive."

Oh, and Guarlaras are like backwards lipizzaners; they are born white and mature black.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Akk dogs aren't actually dogs, they're enormous, orangey, large-teethed reptillian-looking predatory thingamabobs... well at least they look so in DHC's Emissaries to Malastare.

Krayt Dragons aren't terrestrial, unless you count them as related to some extinct reptiles and dinosaurs.
