The last time I checked the Elgin Marbles were in London, not Istanbul, and the Ottoman Empire wasn't exactly in a place to protest people carting them off back when that was going on.
The Elgin Marbles are not in London, well not all of them, they basically broke up and sawed off as much as they could, and shipped it back to Lord Elgin so that he may 'preserve them' remarkably, those pieces left behind are intact and well in a museum at the foot of the Parthanon. For crying out loud, in London they have the shoulders and back of Posiedon, while the chest and abdomen are still in Athens, they even have one right foot of a statue while the rest of the statue in it's entirety is in Athens.

However I was refering to the moziacs on chapels in Norther Cyprus that date back to the 14th Century that were in presitne condition prior to 1974, and which are nowhere to be found now.

*shrugs* Well, it was an invasion. I wouldn't be surprised of the Turkish Cypriots just plastered them over or something; if they were stolen--well, we know full well how deadly war can be to cultural treasures. It's been demonstrated often in history. It's strictly a secondary concern, however, when one looks at the lives and prosperity of nations.
