I was worried for the Quebequan SCA members!

Wonder why Quebec considers them Illegal?

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Flails, illegal? Ridiculous! You can't hurt anyone with a flail!
*Splinters skull playing with flail* :D

Reminds me of when a former roomate said that he saw two guys having a swordfight in an alley once, he also thought it looked like fun. (This was the guy who said that he thought Janeway was "sexy as hell", especially her voice....)

Maybe your roommate was talking about the swordfight in Highlander.

Well, one Saturday night, I was with a few friends, alcohol and far too many medieval and eastern weapons.

One thing leads to another and before you know it there are groups of us having "points" matches right next to a major road (and in the middle of another) with such things as 2x Machete vs Claymore, or Bo-staff vs Longsword.

With a group of onlookers including some amused policemen who eventually moved on.

Just once, I'd like to see a swordfight in a crowded area, it'd be kinda cool.

So, if I bought an old military surplus M14 that had had the automatic firing mechanism disabled beyond repair, I couldn't use that gun to hunt or target shoot with in Canada? Weird...

Anyhoo, about the medieval weapons. I would like to know the stats on how many crimes have been carried out with them in the last 30 years...

I'm not sure. I know the M-16 and AR-15 are restricted weapons (you can get a permit), but I don't think you can hunt with them. I believe the restricted weapons permit limits how you can use it (you need to tell them why you want it, for example: collection, shooting club).

I don't think weapons modified to single shot are OK, each gun would have to be inspected, it would be cumbersome, I don't think the gov't wants to deal with that. I think it would be OK if the gun was sold in a single-shot varient.

If you are an American, you can get a temporary permit for restricted weapons only to attent an approved shooting competition. In that case the weapon has to be shipped to the destination in bond via courier, then shipped back to the U.S. the same way.

You have a point. A gang member isn't going to carry a giant medival flail... its just a blanket rule that they've applied that unfortunately gets serious collectors in trouble every so often. Thankfully swords are just considered big knives.
