Part of the problem with getting the morons of SB is that SB moderation doesn't allow the kind of incendiary argument (First, prove the idiot wrong. Then set the idiot on fire) that's necessary to get rid of the real dipshits.

So SB is bad because of the actions of a few?

I think he's referring to the non-permanent punishment system. Really, how many times have we seen someone pull a boner, get banned for a week (wowee, 'at'll show 'em!), and then come back after their slap on the wrist, only to pull the same pranks?

I mean, I'm all for second chances and all, but c'mon... if there're not significant consequences to someone's misbehavior, do you think they're going to learn not to act like an ass?

I think it's just because you have to fuck up royally to really set the Mods off. You don't see Mackie being allowed to come back do you?

We don't? I sure as hell do.

I wouldn't exactly forbid it since it's what I use. Well, I don't set them on fire; I hit them multiple times with a blunt object.

Of course, you haven't always been the brightest guy yourself.

I mean, Dent gets touchy, but that's Arthur and I'm not always in agreement with him. Despite misconceptions, the SB moderation staff is not a unified body; we have disagreements and even outright arguments.

And.... IXJac isn't as dumb as you think, it had probably been a while since he had cracked open a physics book when he made that statement. Don't judge a person just by one thing he says.

Anyway, on Sean, his credibility has long been under fire. He used to be respected, because he appeared well-learned and someone who did his research. But one by one, he alienated the key posters in NSF and eventually brought down the wrath of some of our better debaters (including myself, whom he made the mistake of calling out over an evolution debate; burning him was fun) upon him, and we pretty much pointed out he was full of shit; today, aside from a few "fans" (Who are mostly the deeply religious, "atheists are so mean to us" types), his credibility is non-existant.

Essentially, Sean is a Christian Protestant fundamentalist, albeit a well-mannered one. He denies that Mormons and Catholics are Christian. He believes in the whole "new world order" conspiracy, including the UN taking over the world and undermining, then outright illegalizing, religion. He believes that the Illuminati exist, that the Freemasons are a part of them and they're all evil Luciferianists/Satanists who are going to use the New World Order to rule the world. He considers atheism a religion. And finally, he has thoroughly convinced himself that creationism has far more proof for it's existance than evolution does, that evolution is a falsified and disproven theory stubbornly clung to by the scientific community because they don't want to accept the "truth" that God created humanity from scratch.

He does appear to be liberally-minded when it comes to sex, and aside from a time when I provoked him, he generally doesn't flame people or act aggressive, unlike our other major Fundie, wal (who has a second account, made at work, with the name "cw").

Ultimately, he pontificates terribly, he refuses to murder his darlings, and he always comes equipped with a deluge of quotes and excerpts from articles, essays, and books on the subject he's talking about, and refuses to see them as appeals to authority because it doesn't fit the definition of an appeal to authority that he has in a dictionary; since he has his own argument and doesn't just "use" his references as his argument, only "evidence", he rejects all accusations of Appeals to Authority as strawman attacks by his opponents, even though his "references" have little purpose in the debate, are mostly the opinion of the people that they originate from, and only serve to pad his post, give him the appearance of being a well-researched person, and to intimidate potential adversaries with the fancy credentials of the people he quotes and refers to.

In short: SeanG is a pseudo-intellectual pisshead.

Difference here is that SeanG has done nothing to warrent a ban. It would be like banning the idiotic WCOTC people for just spouting their idiotic dogma that anyone with half a brain can see is wrong. Sure, SeanG packages his crap better, but its still crap. Thanks to Big Steve and some other good debaters at SB, SeanGs rants usually get torn to pieces and he flees with his tail between his legs.

FYI, there has been one Permanent ban at SB. And if you don't get a perm ban, you get a 1-3 month ban, or possibly even a 6 month ban.

Laird once got a 1 month ban that was extended to 2 months when he violated the ban (used another account). He was once tonned down from posting some really bad stuff with the threat of a 6 month ban.
