I have to disagree with your commentary on this case.

#1. Your assertion that this case highlighted the racism of the south is not supported by the article you mentioned. The article lists the murder as a 'random' action and not a 'hate' crime. Nowhere does it note the intentions of the criminals, I did some internet searching on this case and found nothing on the subject. Had this been a racially motivated crime I would expect much more publicity than this.

Just because the victim is a relative of a civil-rights advocate, it does not mean that the killers were trying to make a racial statement. Assuming that a member of one race that kills a member of another race did it because of racism is a stereotypical thought that lends itself to racism.

#2. The 'light' sentences the defendants received for their crimes does not evidence that the system is corrupt and racist. It is stated in this article that finding witnesses and such was difficult for the prosecution. The harsher the sentence you wish to convict someone for, the harder it is to convince a jury. This is why the death penalty isn't used as much as it could be, the chances of conviction are much higher for an easier sentence. A prosecutor would rather get someone for Murder 2, and have them do 20 to life in prison, than risk them getting acquitted because they went for Murder 1/Death.

We as distant spectators do not know how much evidence the prosecution had to work with. We have no idea what the witnesses said or how solid they were. Nor do we know what magic cards the defense may have pulled to get such a sentence.

In contrast Andrea Yates who systematically drowned her 5 kids because she was angry at her husband, will be up for parole in 40 years.

Should I take the OJ Simpson verdict as evidence that LA is full of black supremacists?

Actually what I heard today on the news is that the Kids threw an egg at him and he punched one of them, then they beat him to death. It was not that detailed of report though, so I do not know.

Well, either way it's not terribly surprising, coming from a region whose most substantial civil rights achievement so far was slavery being renamed 'sharecropping'.
There hasn't been anything in the last several decades to change most mindsets.

I am a bit behind here, but.................in most states, esp southern states like Alabama and Mississippi, the penalty for murder goes like this: Whites get prefferes treatment; ie, they get parole in ten years, if put i jail at all. Blacks and other minorities are treated with lower standards: the cases involved are more discriminatory, used to find a way that the person could have conceivably committed the murder. Then they are put in jail, often times with no opt for parole. If they are given the option, then it is usually forgotten or not looked at. At least, that's the way it seemed last time I watched 60 minutes or actually looked at a newspaper...

First off...gas chambers are declared inhumane...second, they could only put one in there at a time anyways...plus, TRUE sadists would want to enjoy it as long as possible...see them die one at a time.

But I even have my limits...I would much rather see someone be tortured than kiled.

So what? I don't see anything here about racism. All I see is a old man

"Rosa Parks" and "Beasley" and came up with ZERO hits, same with
"Antwan Howard". Also, they said the MINORS names. It is a policy
of newspapers to NEVER print the names of minors charged with
crimes.

On the other hand, it wouldn't matter in Alabama, now would it? It's just one more black person killed, isn't it? Honestly, if they were black, they would have been put in jail --for longer-- or given the death penalty. Just to be rid of the black "infidel" population.

Please understand, I am not trying to defend what these kids did.

But there is a serious lack of information about this case available to the public. I came out with several sources for the same article.

My point is that I can't, in good conscious, point and yell racism. There just isn't enough evidence for my lawyer'ish brain to do so. To be honest, I can't even be sure the kids who did it were even white, the article doesn't mention what race they are.

If someone does find out more about it, please post a link.
