Well, we pulled it off against South Carolina. We went into overtime tied at 17, the Cocks (snicker) won the toss and ended up kicking a field goal, bringing the score to 20-17. When UT got the ball, we ended up making a touchdown, bringing the final score to 22-20, UT.
So far, UT is 4-0, leading the SEC East. Do I smell a National Championship coming up?

Well, my first American football game was this weekend, OSU against the Arizona team, and whilst very entertaining and enjoyable, I think I still prefer standard football to the former. Still, that said, it was rather fun, the atmosphere is pretty good, although the lack of away fans did make it all somewhat one-sided.
Other entertainment was provided by the massed (6) danish fans starting up converted European football chants for use in American football, and the failure of this, and of course, their determination to carry on regardless. Had we been with them, we would have joined in...![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Arizona actually played halfway decent against TCU and had a shot to win the thing so it seems a little strange for Mackovic to get fires right now. I wonder if he had a meltdown about this game or something?
The local paper had mentioned that Mackovic and the football team's problems were begining to spill over into complaints about the athletic director. They figured the AD was still safe because Lute Olson and the school President were both big supporters of his but no one suggested that Mackovic would be out before the end of the season.

This provides some more information about the last days of Mackovic but it also suggests that Arizona might possibly hire Mike Price because Arizona's AD is the one who hired him at Washington State.
While he's definately a good coach does Arizona really want the kind of publicity they'd get from firing Mackovic and then immediately hiring Price?

No. That's precisely the reason Bama got rid of him. They had had enough bad publicity. While he's definately a good coach does Arizona really want the kind of publicity they'd get from firing Mackovic and then immediately hiring Price?

Speaking of the hawks, A loss against Michigan will doom their Chances of a Big Ten title and BCS Bowl hopes.
speaking of the Canes, HOLY CRAP THAT WAS CLOSE EH? 22-20 in the last seconds against WV.

Auburn is wiping the floor with Tennesee, 28-7 lafter 3 qtrs in what could be the biggest upset of the day, UCLA opened up a huge Can on Washington after falling behind in a hurry.
Iowa keeps its Big 10 hopes alive by beating Michigan but Ohio State is next, that could decide the eventual Champeen in college football's best conference.

My boys pulled off an interesting win over Alabama. Complete and utter dominance in the first half, and one of the worst performances I've seen on all sides of the ball during the second half. We seriously need to work on the discipline.

UGA looks good but I dont think they have what it takes to win the SEC. LSU too strong and even if UT loses I still think they are a better team. Then there is Arkansas, who has made more than one person crap themselves this year with their start out of the gate.

No, Tennessee isn't superior to UGA. UGA's defense is too dominating; then only reason Bama put as many points on the board as they did was because of turnoevers. If we could get the discipline under control and learn how to score TDs in the redzone we'd have the best team in the country.UGA looks good but I dont think they have what it takes to win the SEC. As for LSU? Clearly a very good team, but I think we're still better. Last Saturday was the day from hell for us. See if they can beat us in the Georgia Dome, in very hostile territory...
Arkansas is a good team, but one-dimensional. You can't beat Georgia unless you've got a good passing game, something Arkansas doesn't really have. Plus Arkansas had trouble with a team we beat by a very comfortable margin. Then there is Arkansas, who has made more than one person crap themselves this year with their start out of the gate.

Bah all you SEC folks, you want a tight conference come play ACC. MD is udnerrated currently (we're only out of the top 25 because everyone though northern Ill sucked), Florida State is strong as ever, NC State is gonna kick some ass once they rememebr that they're suppossed to this year. between that, Wake Forrest suddenly having a program, and Virginia trying to be Virginia again this is a tight conference.
Oh well Terps won and that's fine by me.

The ACC as a football conference is ALL Florida State.
FSU was conference champ last year with 3 losses and got horribly spanked by UGA. Maryland and NC St proved earlier this season that they dont have what it takes to hang with the best teams in the country this year.
However next year, when Miami and VT join the ACC they will be a dominant conference.
As for Mr. Korr's Bulldogs, Al I can say is that Talk is cheap when compared to the number in the WIn Column. dawgs lost to LSU despite a higher ranking and they dont play Arkansas this year.
Fortunately for Georgia, they play Tennesee next week and then the toughest game left on the Schedule is at the Swamp against a weak looking set of Florida Gators. But I dont think they can win the SEC this year.

We lost to LSU at Death Valley, barely, in a game where everything just wasn't going our way. And Tennessee just lost to the far weaker Auburn. So what's your point? As for Mr. Korr's Bulldogs, Al I can say is that Talk is cheap when compared to the number in the WIn Column. dawgs lost to LSU despite a higher ranking and they dont play Arkansas this year.
As for Arkansas, we played and dominated them last year at the SEC tournament, and the team is not radically different from the one it was last year.
Fact is, Arkansas barely squeaked by Bama and we clobbered them. So Arkansas beats Texas. Whoop-de-do, Texas has been the most overrated team in the country for three years at least now. As well as the Big 12 in general.

That was true three years ago, not now. Since then MD has won once and both MD and NCST made bids for the conference last year. This year while FSU looks unbeatable they still have a lot of tough games left.Darth Fanboy wrote:The ACC as a football conference is ALL Florida State.
They had 1 conference loss. That's all that matters. We can't help it if they wanted to play out of conference. my point is that you still lost, looking back and thinking that you didnt play your best changes nothing. Its a LOSS.Durran Korr wrote:

As or the Argument that "team A beat Team C by a wider margin, Team B barely beat Team C, therefore Team A is better than Team B" is good in theory, but not in practice. Its something you say the week before the game, and then more often than not it has no impact on the outcome of the game.
As For Arkansas, you still dont play them this year and they are a MUCH better team this year being Ranked in the top ten. You cannot judge this years team based on last years performance at all.
And CmdrWilkens:
This proves my point perfectly, Your Conference Champion lost two games outside of the conference to other conferences and nearly lost the season opener to IOWA STATE (At Kansas City IIRC) of all teams, one play at the end of that game that could have gone either way changed that season dramatically.hey had 1 conference loss. That's all that matters. We can't help it if they wanted to play out of conference. Furthermore we can't help their schedule last year when we're talking about THIS year.
Also, how can the big 12 be overrated as a conference, This year's Texas Longhorns might have lost to Arkansas but look how well they have been playing. Oklahoma is not that far removed from a national title, Nebraska has been one of the dominant teams the last ten years, Kansas St has put forth some very good teams as well.

No fucking shit it's a loss, smartass. But you're acting like the fact that we lost to one of the best teams in the country (they were ranked 10th when we played them) on their home turf is indicative of how we can't take the SEC East, and worst of all implying that Tennessee is somehow a superior team. Has Tennessee's defense only allowed 8.6 points per game like ours has?my point is that you still lost, looking back and thinking that you didnt play your best changes nothing. Its a LOSS.
So we have a loss, whoop-de-fucking-do. There still isn't a team in the SEC East as strong as Georgia.
Sure I can. While they have gotten better, they are still primarily a running based offense, just like last year.As For Arkansas, you still dont play them this year and they are a MUCH better team this year being Ranked in the top ten. We'll find out who is better between UT and UGA next week when they play. Which is the best way of determining such things, however since Gerogia hasn't WON an important game all year and Tennesse has (at Florida, when Florida was playing better, and I tend to think of them as the better team going into this matchup. And since its At Tennesee I favor the Vols to win.Durran Korr wrote:

LSU is one of the best teams in the country similar in strength to Tennesee, my assumption is that if you cant beat them you cant beat the Vols.
When it comes to the quote "Has Tennesee Defense allowed 8.6 points per game" that doesnt mean youll allow that many points. Iowa allowed a similar amounts of points than that per game before playing Michigan state and they were beaten.
Your claims about Arkansas, in my own opinion, are unfounded. I don't see how you would compare last years team to this one. when this Arkansas team is by far better.
Plus Arkansas is rated higher by the NCAA Coaches poll, and I trust their opinions more than anyone elses.
Whoop de do to a loss? Normally i'd agree with you but if you want a BCS bowl bid and/or an SEC title then every loss hurts you in some way.
One last thing, you obviously seem pissed off in your last post. If i've insulted you in some way I apologize but I dont recall doing that, it looks to me like you're taking my criticisms of the Dawgs as some sort of personal attack.

We did, however, shut out Clemson, we nearly shut out South Carolina, and we handed Bama, a team that Arkansas had trouble getting by (sorry, but comparing the performances of different teams against the same team is not an invalid method of comparison), a pretty thorough whooping until Coach Richt decided to start putting in the second and third strings. We'll find out who is better between UT and UGA next week when they play. Which is the best way of determining such things, however since Gerogia hasn't WON an important game all year and Tennesse has (at Florida, when Florida was playing better, and I tend to think of them as the better team going into this matchup. As for Tennessee winning a big game? Extremely questionable. Florida is already a three-loss team.
As for the homefield advantage at Neyland...that kind of thing really doesn't phase the Bulldogs. The LSU loss was the first true away loss in over two years, and the Bulldogs did pretty well there, in any case.
Not so much...LSU has a great o-line, Tennessee does not. Clausen has a lot less protection than Mauck, and Georgia's defense is very cruel to quarterbacks indeed (we probably ruined Bama's season today by putting both of their top quarterbacks out of the game).LSU is one of the best teams in the country similar in strength to Tennesee, my assumption is that if you cant beat them you cant beat the Vols.
Of course it doesn't guarantee it. But it increases the likelihood of the Vols putting up a low score on the board. When it comes to the quote "Has Tennesee Defense allowed 8.6 points per game" that doesnt mean youll allow that many points. I never said it wasn't. I just said that it is still similar to last year's Arkansas team - similar strengths, similar weaknesses. I'll hold off judgment till next week when they play Auburn. I respect that Arkansas beat Texas (I love it, in fact), but as far as I'm concerned Texas is just an overrated Big 12 team that hasn't done a damn thing to deserve the massive amounts of praise heaped upon it from the sports media.Your claims about Arkansas, in my own opinion, are unfounded. I don't see how you would compare last years team to this one. when this Arkansas team is by far better.
Don't put too much stocks in the polls.Plus Arkansas is rated higher by the NCAA Coaches poll, and I trust their opinions more than anyone elses.
To one loss in our circumstances, yeah. The other SEC East Contenders, Florida and Tennessee each have at least one SEC loss. So our loss to LSU, while bad, obviously, certainly doesn't put us into a position of being in danger of not winning the SEC East. A loss to Tennessee would do that, however.Whoop de do to a loss? Normally i'd agree with you but if you want a BCS bowl bid and/or an SEC title then every loss hurts you in some way.
