My knowledge on phasers is a bit lacking, could anyone clear me out on what NDF really means and does it affect shields.

As a term, NDF officially doesn't exist anymore. NDF was the name given by the TMs. Thus, the term's still colored by the connection to the TM. Therefore, some fans have pushed for re-acceptance of the old term POOC (Phase Out Of The Continuum) to describe the effects. This motion has yet to gain popularity.

Since there is little hard data on how NDF works, we must make do with observed effects. Mike's Relics calcs are IMHO flawed in respects to the assumption that the solar prominences were negligible, and so we can expect a GCS to be able to withstand more than the estimated 150 000 TJ of EM energy. A phaser is reputed to be able to burn through such shield in 5 seconds, which IMHO is a workable estimate.

However, once said beam has penetrated these shields, their efficiency seems to drop radically. Mike estimated a few Terawatts at most, and without his experience I can't dispute him even if I wanted to.
