I questioned her, remembering parts of this site, I mentioned the thing about the entrance to King Solomon's mines and Pi bit. She told me to shut up, and that science answered nothing. Come to vegas. We have hookers and fundies everywhere.

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one. Odly enough, hookers make for good conversations at traffic pile ups.

Gandalf wrote:It's a million times better in person though.
The best confrontation with a fundie takes place in front of one of those self-styled "moderates" who thinks that both sides are bad.

For years, my brother said he doubted me about fundies really being that bad. But finally, I confronted one in front of him, and got her to agree to the chain of fundie logic:
  1. On the Day of Judgement, all of the unbelievers will die.
  2. It doesn't matter whether they've behaved well in life.
  3. God is perfectly righteous.
  4. Step #1 is God's will
  5. Step #1 is perfectly righteous
  6. Therefore, it's righteous to kill all of the Buddhists
When she answered "yes" to the last question, my brother looked away (because he knew her and didn't realize what kind of evil lay beneath the surface). Later, he came to me and said "Holy shit, I can't believe it. It's even worse than you said." He's since reported confronting some other fundies about subjects like that, and getting similar answers.

The ideal confrontation with a fundie will not enlighten you (a fundie, quite frankly, has nothing to teach) and won't enlighten the fundie (his brain is cemented), but it will enlighten bystanders.

That reminds me of that saying

You can bring an elephant to water, but you can't get it to drink (or something like that)
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I had one guy once corner me at the local public Library and lecture me about JEsus and how he was "gathering" evidence that the Library was a secret drug cartel.

When I get a copy of it, I'll try to host it.

Anyone know how much space that would take, the ISP I plan to join with allows 10mb.

Wait until you get a Buddhist fundie to hit you up.. It's definitely odd. Especially for a pagan. I ended up walking away from that with a book just to shut the guy up.

Precisely what harm does a Buddhist fundie do? I have not heard of any Buddhist fundie groups trying to censor material in school textbooks, suppress education of certain topics in school, or use government legislation to marginalize and oppress those who offend their beliefs.

Hehe.. It's actually quite amusing.. It was very odd for me, considering the word "karma" is used for different meanings in the two religions.. And I'm not using "fundie" in the term that it is normally used.. just a generalization of "you're wrong because you're not [insert religion here]."

Anyhow, some guy stopped me while I was on my way to my dorm to switch out books.. I was asked whether I had heard of karma, but it was a different kind of karma than I had heard of.. unfortunately this was almost a year ago, but it still amuses me, even though I can't remember the entire conversation. Odd, though, that he picked me (the one goth in a fairly large crowd of preps) to talk to about this.. hehe.

Obviously, the correct response to a completely unsolicited harassment about karma is to say something like "you're about to get some bad karma upside the head if you don't leave me alone" :D

Homer: "What are you selling."
Apu: "I offer the prospect of Karmic realignment."
Homer: "Karma can only be portioned out by the cosmos."(Shuts door)
Apu: (Think for a second) "He has got me there."

Technically Apu is a Hindu, but I feel it counts.

Did he have any proof that they were dealing drugs, or did he just hate the libraries for some reason?

Anyway, I don't get many fundies in NJ. It's probably because I'm not open about my beliefs, My family doesn't associate with really religous people, and all the churches I went to were more moderate places.
