Dont let your foaming at the mouth loyalty give you delusions about how good your eam is though, Thats my only advice.

I have no delusions. I am fully aware of our often pathetically inept red zone offense and the complete lack of discpline that was on display today and at the MTSU game as well. I am also aware of our strengths - great passing game, serviceable running game, and a defense that leaves little or nothing to complain about. And defense wins championships, after all.

In any case, no one ever said college football fandom is a realm where reason holds much sway.

Well I think we can probably agree then that UGA has no shot at a national title at least? no matter how much youd like it to happen that is, cuz its going to be another two unbeaten teams this year.

On the topic of national championships, who do you predict to win it?

FSU
Miami
LSU
Virginia Tech
Oklahoma
OSU

Who is your pick.

Mine was Michigan but they were eliminated from contendership today :(

With Frank Gore out of Miami's lineup, its all up for grabs IMHO.

1-AA has Playoffs, its much more entertaining. Id rather not worry about wether or not my teams fate is left in the hands of other teams.

I understand what you're going through with the overly obnoxious Hawkeye fanatics. I went to high school with one. Got to see him eat a whole lot of crow one weekend after Illinois beat Iowa 39-0 and he'd been giving the Illini fans a bunch of crap all day.

You'd probably would have liked Iowa City in the early 70's when the Hawkeyes were lucky to win 1 or 2 games a year. :)

Is it just me or is the Pac-10 seriously messed up this year?

It could just be all of college football.

After the Big-10 has played a few more conference games I bet it's standings will be as screwy as so many of the other conferences where everyone keeps nocking each other off.

My High School PE teacher was a UNI grad and former football player. I hear he's taken over as head football coach at my old high school now. :)

It's also cool that the high school state football championships are always played in the UNI-dome. :)

Nothing more than an off-chance. We're too young to improve on last year's achievements, but that doesn't mean we can't duplicate them.

Crap, UT lost last night to Auburn, breaking our 4-0 winning streak. We could have won if Clausen (asshat...) hadn't FUBARed the last play. He had a reciever wide open, wasn't in too bad cover, threw the ball to short, and got an interception, thus ending the game. Of course, he won't take any of the blame for loosing the game, it will be the typical, "Our offensive line wasn't up to par," or "we just weren't like we should be," drivel.

I'm just glad that he is a senior this year....

YOu could have won if you would have contained Cadillac williams also, you also could have won if you would have scored more points before time ran out....

Jordan-Hare is a very tough place to play, also. I think UT would have won at Neyland.

Tech vs Florida?

Post by Lord MJ »

If both Florida and Tech make it to the post season. (Tech's chances are better the Florida's).

Tech could very well be facing Florida in a bowl.

If that's the case, what would the chances be that Tech would be the one to finally get Zook fired, if he hasn't been fired yet?

Florida's actually the team I'm seriously worried about, besides Tennessee. Even though they suck this year they'll always have a psychological advantage until we get this fucking game out of Jacksonville.

I hate all sports minus ping pong and rollerball, so I doubt it. :P

I'm speaking from a purely academic point of view. The Hawks have been draining an ongodly amount of money and resources from the University as a whole, even if a lot of it comes from donations, which without them, could be directed to the university proper.

Plus I'm not too fond of an organisation that plays favourites for rapists and other lawbreakers...

Sports are an excuse for people to sit around a TV to burp and fart

Badmitton is an exception
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

It's strange, the last two times we have played Florida in the Swamp, we have won, but the last few times we have played them here, we have lost...

Your comments about ping pong reminded me that I used to know a couple of brothers who lived in Iowa City who were big ping pong players. I think their last name was Butler. They were both good enough to play against the Chinese but I dont' think either of them won.

Well if it wasn't for those sports teams U of I would lose a lot of exposure and a lot of the Revenue that those programs bring in to the school. Those donations you speak of would not come without the football/Basketball team and those programs are also good ways to keep Alumni interested in the school.

Television Revenue from those sporting events is huge not to mention the Automatic revenue (a million or so at least) if a team from the SAME CONFERENCE makes it to one of the BCS bowl games.

As much as you dislike it, Iowa cannot do without it.

edit:

They could do without it, but if they did you would see a decrease in enrollments and a decrease in availiable funds for the school.

Are you certain about this, Spanky? The primary source of funding for NCAA football programs is almost invariably athletic associations, which are funded by generous alumni.

Gotta get past Miami at the Orange Bowl first. :P

Go Canes!
Do the VOls play Miami during the season? that would be a good title game.
Yep, they play each other on November 8th in Miami. Talk about a tough schedule, three of Miami's next four games are against Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee...
