Regarding SK/DPRK...would not the U.S. forces in SK be little more than a speedbump if the DPRK invade...I'm a little fuzzy on the topic and my google-fu is weak.

If by speed bump, you mean the combine forces of the US and ROK smash the northern assault miles short Seoul your correct. The north can't mount anything like the full scale invasion they once could.

I don't know what the DPRK's situation is, but the US soldiers at the edge of the DMZ refer to themselves as a speed bump, and tend to believe that if invaded, they don't stand a chance (rather fatalistic bunch).

I tend to agree that the DPRK would lose the war, but I believe they would cause quite a bit of damage in the first few weeks of the campaign, merely because the US/ROK forces are so much smaller, and the DPRK would probably catch at least a few units off guard.

hmmmm Mig-21's

Post by AdmiralTDM »

I dont know if its just me or what... but * cringes * The Mig-21 is still a kick ass aircraft. Sure there are better aircraft "SU-27" but if the Fishbed is all you have, its better than nothing.
As far as im concerned all the Mig-21's get shot down cause

A- Dumb Middle Eastern Pilots.
B- Dumb Middle Eastern governments giving orders.
C- Dumb Middle Eastern military commanders who are to pussy to get proper training from the Russians.

anyways yes im stupid and like the Mig-21... But I like the SU-27 better so I must not be TO stupid? Right? Oh well...

No, your likely better selling them for scrap and taking all the money you'd spend on fuel to buy SAM's. The early MiG-21's where okay in the 70's. Today they are simply fodder unless you spend ten million rebuilding them with modern equipment, and even then they still suck pretty badly.

Moron, the Soviets did train all the pilots and even flew against Israel in considerable numbers themselves. They still went down in droves, in one case eight out of twelve Fishbed D's, all Soviet piloted, where shot down. IAF losses, zero.

The MiG-21 only did what could be called well against the IAF during the first two days of the Yom Kippur war, when they where used to attack IAF formations busy dodging SAM's and AAA. After the SAM's began to lose the battle the Fishbeds began going down in vast numbers for little return once more.

DPRK also has fuel problems. I would expect them to have trouble having enough fuel to properly fight all their forces for a protracted conflict.
