Salò

Post by Robert Treder »

I just bought Salò, Criterion Collection DVD #17 (out of print) on eBay. My winning bid was $382.73 US.

Just thought I'd let you know a little more about my beautiful (albeit sad and compulsive) DVD collection.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

A very distrubing film.

What's so disturbing about it? I've never even heard of it, let alone seen it.

IIRC, it's based on a book by the Marquis de Sade. That should tell you all you need to know.

Still don't understand why that would make it disturbing, as I need to know who he is now.

$382.73 for a DVD? What does it do, grow arms and give you a handjob?

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

His name is the origin of the word "sadism".

Does that help?

Have a very nice day.

The english title of the film is 120 Days in Sodom, or something similar to that. Its an older film from 1975 that was banned in many countries for years--IIRC, the Criterion DVD is the first time it was released uncut in Britain (and this appears to no longer be available).

It recounts how in Nazi-occupied Italy a bunch of youngsters are rounded up and subjected to all forms of sexual debauchery and perversion. If things like watching people being forced to each shit and other forms of forced sexual perversion and torture, often involving executions, make your stomache turn then you may want to skip this one. Its actually a very intelligent film believe it or not; it explores the nazi fascination with experimentation and perversion and things of that nature. Its actually very Art House-ish. Disturbing, powerful and fascinating. I wouldnt recommend repeated viewings.
