Im back from the polls!

Post by TrailerParkJawa »

I think there might be a healthy turnout today. I heard on the poll workers say I was voter number 177 for the day. The polls had only been opened for 2.5 hours when I went. Get this, there were 7 pages of choices for governor. They were listed randomly so you had to flip around looking for your choice. What a waste of money. Every county lists them in their own way.

Anyhoo, here is how I voted.

RECALL: No. I dont like Davis, but he did not do anything criminal so I dont see a need to recall him. Also, people are angry for many things that are out of his control but need a scape goat.

GOVERNOR: McClintock. Only McClintock and Cameo had the balls to say what they would do and what they believe. Im a moderate Democrat so voting for McClintock is a leap, but Cameo is a Socialist so it was an easy choice. Arnold, lost me a long time ago. I was willing to give him a chance but he blew it at the debate and by not answering questions with specifics early enough.

Prop 53: No. California's infrastructure is in bad shape after 20 years of rampant population growth and limited funding. This would have dedicated 3% of the budget to state infrastructure. While I think we need to improve our infrastructure this is the wrong way to do it. Part of our budget problems is the money is often mandated by propositions which leaves no ability to deal with a crisis such as we have today.

Prop 54: No This one would have forbid the collection of racial data by gov't agencies. Im voted No because I dont have a strong opinion either way on this one. Whenever Im not sure I just vote no.

I was under the impression that that was an either-or vote. You either vote No on recall and don't select a gov. And only if you vote Yes do you get to select a gov. Did I hear wrong?

You did hear wrong. You get to vote on both, regardless of which way you vote.

Hence the Davis/Bustamante camp has been running the so-called "No/Yes" campaign.

I believe that Prop. 54 is just more PC bullshit. Race exists, deal with it. If you dont want to be classified by where you are from then you are shit out of luck. If your family is from Germany than you are of German descent.

Forgot to add that racial information is important to the census and other population statistics.

Put the names in alphabetical order for fucks sake, and beside every name have a box to tick if you want to vote for that person... one vote= one tick on the ballot.

It was decided that this lended those who had names that started with 'A' an unfair advantage.

Stupid, I know.

Because they want to make to fair based on a Lottery. The Daily Show did a beautiful snippit on this.

I think it's just laziness. The voters won't bother with reading them through for their candidate, get tired from the page-turning halfway through, and vote for a random candidate.

I'm sure half of the candidates would be lucky to get more than 1,000 votes.

recall- yes, Davis only won last time for lack of a better alternative and I had not yet registered to Vote in California, so this Yes to Recall vote constitues as my uncast vote for Bill Simon.

Governor: Arnold- Bustamante= Davis, no other candidate has a chance of ousting them. Plus I think he will do a good job.

Prop 53: This was very tough, I voted Yes because I think that it won't take long for these imporvements to pay form thmselves and/or make life easier for Californians.

Prop 54: No, forbidding classification has a noble intent, but it prevents medical professionals from gathering potentially life saving data for groups at risk. For instance, a study of data showing that African Americans are more susceptible to a certain medical condition than Caucasians, this is valuable information to doctors.

Well it turns out I was lied to when it comes to Prop 54, since I am just now learning that this excludes Medical Data. not that it would have changed my mind that much, but I make this statement only because of my previous statement regarding medical data.

This is a stupidity that is unique to California from my understanding. Other states list the candidates alphabetically. I dont see how it gives any kind of advantage. What it ends up doing it wasting money cause so many different ballot printouts need to be made. One for each precinct.

Your Ballot was different than mine.

All candidates were arrange in the order of the random alphabet on one page. Simply fill in the box next to the name of the candidate or choice you vote for.

It was incredibly simply, easy to follow, and It didnt hurt that I got a nice simple sample ballot prior to the election.

My county ( Santa Clara County ) still uses the punch card system. They will be replaced in March or May. I was real careful to avoid dimpling the punch card, punching the wrong candidate, etc. I did not see any order to the candidates. McClintock was #18 of 135.

The order of the candidates was done by a random alphabet. The Twenty six letters were rearranged at random. Since S was the first letter in this random alphabet Schwarzeneggers name was right towards the top, in fact he was fourth.

by coincidence, B was the last name in ths alphabet, which is why Bustamante was Fourth from the bottom, right above two other candidates and the Write in portion of the ballot.

this could have been for orange county only,or the randomization could have been different county by county methinks
