i sense new song material for the kennedys

I am Governor arnold now
My aura smiles
And never frowns
Soon I will be president

dubbya power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will terminate in school

And NOW California gets really interesting.
Yeah, you're about to learn the same way that Minnesota did that celebrities make shitty governors.

I made the mistake of voting for Jesse Ventura. Times were flush, it seemed like there wasn't really all that much he could do to fuck up. I was wrong. Oh GOD was I wrong. I should have ignored the thought that "Oh, he'll never win" and just voted for Skip Humphrey.

At least Arnold isn't likely to say stupid things about organized religion.

Not where I live. Still punchcards. It didn't fill me with a lot of confidence that some are still having trouble using THESE. When I voted today, a woman asked me to help her in the next booth. I chose to play it safe and asked one of the staff at the polling place to help her.
I've voted both absentee and at the location, which in the Iowa Linn county district means that both are a "pencil in the dot next to the choice" form that's a little like a scantron sheet. They're so simple that you'd have to be doing it on purpose to screw up.

Winona County uses the same scantron ballots in Minnesota, as does Dakota County. Given that these are separated by Wabasha, Olmstead and Rice Counties, I suspect that means that the scantron ballots are in use statewide.

According to political analysts in California, this election should serve as a warning to President Bush's campaign, which seeks to incorporate the trappings of populism without its most identifying trait: a sincere willingness to listen to the desires of the people (there are no feedback links on President Bush's campaign website, nor does his pseudo-blog have a comment feature).

Issues-wise, Schwarzenegger is essentially a pro-business Democrat. His election is a slap in the face to the insider political machine of the state, not to either party in particular.

So it's a bleak day in California because you live there? Do you have some sort of odor problem or something?

Absentee ballots have not been fully counted, nor can 100% of a state's population vote.

Considering that only eight million voted in the last California election, this turnout isn't bad. Are you going to argue now that Davis's election was not the will of the people if only ~20% of the population voted in that election as well?

Plus keep in mind that a great deal of California's population CAN'T vote. Immigrants (both illegal and non-citizens), children and convicts (we have a ton you know...) don't have the ability to vote.

Okay, according to this Reuters article, 10 million votes were predicted in total, which is about 65% of the registered electorate.

That's a pretty good turnout for a non-mandatory vote. In Aussie we got to turn up, or we get fined 25 bucks!

You know, Prop 53 is about the first California spending proposition that hasn't passed in ages...

I don't think Arnold is going to be able to do much of anything, given that 40% of the state's budget is set before the legislature even sees it, and the legislature has to pass the budget by a 2/3 supermajority, meaning that even if the governor DOES veto it, chances are good that the legislature has enough votes to override the gubernatorial veto.

Do you really think it's going to be fun living in a state with the big G is a former-Austrian bodybuilder who got into Hollywood and married into the Kennedy family?

Do any of those things have any bearing on his ability to govern?
