ATN all HOI and EUII players: Victoria coming Nov 14th...

Post by MKSheppard »

Supposedly, the new game, Victoria, from Paradox, is released
Nov 14th.

Diplomacy
Victoria has a full flexible diplomatic system based on the concepts from EU1/2 and HoI, with bilateral alliances, limited colonial wars, claims over provinces, and much tied in to the concept of national prestige as the strength in diplomatic actions. Victoria also introduces a complex peace resolution system where claims can be given up, as well as trade deals and resources.

Warfare
Warfare is similar to the system in HoI with divisions of various types constituting the core of the land forces. Troop types are Militia, Colonial Troops, Regular Infantry, Elite Guards, and Cavalry. Divisions will have home provinces and cultures tied to them. Some sort of tactical decisions depending on the commander of the armies will occur. Each individual ship (frigate, man-o-war, ironclad, and dreadnought) will be named. Combat values are based on the three concepts of firepower, organisation and morale.

I've been following the developement rather loosely, but I'll buy it. I just love games that require so much effort. :D

EDIT: You screwed up the link to the research screen. :)

I'll buy it just to play as America and execute War Plans Red through Black. Of course, I'll have to find time to crush any Southern insurrection...

Sweet. I was following the development pretty closely, but the Paradox forums decided to stop working. Anyone else having troubles with that?

I do occasionally and sometimes it takes a while for them to fix it, but it's usually back up on the same day it goes down.

Can you transfer saved games between the three? Because that would be seriously cool.

Hehe, no. ;) There's always the chance of some industrious individual at the Paradox forums making a conversion program, though.

You *can* transfer games between Crusader Kings and EUII, which means basically 700-800 years of gameplay...

I never played Crusader Kings but I heard it can only be played from the Christian POV. Could you describe it?

Is there a time limit in playing the game? For example, does the game stop after a certain year can you play until there is only one winner, like a conquer the world type of scenario?

StarshipTitanic: Crusader Kings isn't out yet, so no, I can't, sorry.

Enigma: EUII goes from 1419-1820. HoI goes from 1936-1946. Victoria, I believe, goes from 1835-1918.

Parts for T-55's might be sparce in the Victorian era.

I know but in EUII you can edit the dates to make it last longer. I'd like Victoria to be a bit like Imperialism II in which you can take as long as you'd like to take over the world (my current game in ImpII is now in the year 2015).

EUII makes no god damn sense at all.

In HOI, I can just send marching orders to my Panzerdivisions, DOW
the Balkans and annex them into the greater German Reich after
crushing their pitiful armies and capturing all their victory locations,
while in EU II, I fucking captured Novogorod itself, and it is still
existing as a Novogorodian province, while in the north, I invaded
another Novogorodian province, and that province switched sides
over to me, WTF?

In EUII you are diplomatically incapable of fully annexing a country which has more than one province (think of military annexation in HOI as a temporary occupation a la Japan and Germany--whereas in EUII annexation is permanent incorporation into the realm with all that it entails).

I care occassionally. Like when I have a navy and Spain fails to conquer the Aztecs and Inca--almost every game, in point of fact :D

Only if you're truly inept and allow them to make up too much of your economy. I usually control a quite wealthy realm, such that my gold siezure is merely a nice addition to my cash income. For example, going gold hunting as the Ottoman Empire, and ending up with Mexico, Peru, Samara, Steiermark, and East African gold.
