I bet this goes down like cod-liver oil
Who else is thinking ... Crusade! With that statement?
Yep..and some questions will also be asked as to what end.
There are not enough WMD's to threaten a stray camel in Iraq.
The invasion was not because Saddam was a bad man, bad men have never bothered the US before.
How and why does the US want to reshape the middle east?

So now it's about "reshaping" the Middle East? Does anyone else find it hilarious that we're hearing this from Bush, who ran on a platform of "no more nation-building"?

You too huh? It's getting harder and harder to hold the pro war line on this one as it becomes clearer that the Adminstratioin was either lying or ignorant, neither of which sits well with me as a reason to go to war.

Sadly, that's part of the gig, I think. Politicians always bloody lie to the people, and this time we got handed a huge one. Still, one must look on the bright side. If nothing else, there's one less dictator. Sure, having an evil dictator isn't enough, realistically, to have war declared, but we have to find a silver lining.

Uh huh, then explain to me why we literally saw scores of trucks pulling away
from suspected WMD sites hours and even minutes before the UN inspectors
arrived using U-2s.

I mean, what was Saddam doing with that shell game? Trying to clean up
his persistent rat problem?

Mike did you ever happen to catch the Daily Show with (I think) John Stewart? He had this very funny thing were he did a policy debate for the upcoming Presidential elections ... it was current President GW Bush vs the Governer of Texas, GW Bush.

Now I know that politicians often change their tune, but W's was 180 degree change in direction about what he was saying before becoming President and what he was saying after ... most amusing.

Inspectors' Iraqi findings justify war: Rice
The United States national security adviser Condoleezza Rice claims inspectors in the American-led search team have already found enough proof of weapons of mass destruction to justify the war in Iraq.
What did they find?
Dr Rice has told the Council on Foreign Relations in Chicago, the search led by chief inspector David Kay had found indisputable evidence that would have forced the UN Security Council to take the very action taken by the US to forcibly disarm Saddam Hussein.
What did they find?
Dr Rice claims the discovery of dozens of WMD-related programs and equipment proves the US case that Iraq posed an immediate threat to world security.
What did they find?
Critics of the Kay report say inspectors failed to find the 'smoking gun' in Iraq.

However all criticism was brushed aside by Dr Rice, who claims there is now no dispute the US was right to launch the war in Iraq.
What did they find?
"The building of a new Iraq would now provide an opportunity to re-shape the entire Middle East," she said.
What does that have to do with weapons of mass destruction?
As the search for more evidence of banned weapons continues in Iraq, so too does the unrest there.
You just said the search was over.
An Iraqi policeman has been killed and another badly wounded, when unknown gunmen fired a rocket-propelled grenade at their checkpoint in the northern city of Kirkuk.

Iraqi police say the the attack has occurred mid-evening, local time.
What does this have to do with weapons of mass destruction?
And a US soldier has been wounded in a rocket-propelled grenade attack on a convoy near the city of Tikrit, about 175 kilometres north of Baghdad.

A spokewoman says the wounded soldier is in a stable condition, but has given no further details.
What does this have to do with weapons of mass destruction? What did Rice find? Anything? Or is this just ABC trying to get some hits on their website?

Well, Sarin does come from rice...although since Hussein drained the Marsh Arabs swamps, where he got the massive quantities of rice from would be a good question. :D

Shep as someone who is reading Bush at War you should know that even after 9/11 Bush was adamant that US troops and the US in general not be involved in nation building.

Iraq had not a thing to do with that terrorist act

I don't know why you keep appealing to it as justification for this crap, but whatever

Remember, kids. There's no length to which politicians can slither down to that can't be swatted away by invoking the date where America got reminded it's not invunerable.[/sarcasm]

Have I mentioned how repulsed I am by 'playing the 9/11 card'?

Would that be as replused as I am, when the "Race or Class Envy" card is played

Nope. See, 'Class/race envy' is a traditional political card, as one side tries to vie for more concerned appearances. No, Theski, presuming you are at least somewhat human, you have no where near the repulsion I do to this nonsense.

After all, we're talking about an event which is now used to recruit more people to an agenda. No matter how depraved it seems, people seem willing to turn the death of thousands into a symbol for more violence, more fear, more suffering. This is how I viewed it from the start, but I was under the impression only the terrorists were doing that.

In the name of 9/11, we now have people chanting for any length in war or at home. Iraq wasn't posing a threat? 9/11! Patriot Act infringes on rights? 9/11! It's hard to tell whose twisted that day into a banner for their purposes more, the Bush administration, or Osama.

...Oh, in for a penny, in for a pound. Let's get this over with.

It's fairly easy to see that 9/11 is being used to fuel fear, and that fear is being used to gain objectives by the government. Well, see, let's haul out Merriam-Webster here...

Main Entry: ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r-"i-z&m
Function: noun
Date: 1795
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
- ter·ror·ist /-&r-ist/ adjective or noun
- ter·ror·is·tic /"ter-&r-'is-tik/ adjective

I'll let everyone put two and two together.

Did anybody really expect President Shrub and his Merry Men to say, "Whoops, I guess we were wrong"? This Presidency has a remarkable lack of willingness to own up to its mistakes or to be open and honest with the electorate.
