What's your limit?

Post by LordShaithis »

Fact: If you're here, you're most likely a geek. I am. You are. We all are. This website is geek heaven.

That said, there are different levels of geek. After all, just because you like Star Wars doesn't mean you can't laugh at the Wookie-suited losers lined up outside the theater.

Furthermore, even the guys in the Wookie suits would pull their masks off long enough to scream "FUCKING GEEKS!" at AJT and his Harry Potter LARP.

So, my fellow geeks, what's your personal limit? What things are just too geeky for you?

Off the top of my head, personally: Trek conventions and post-adolescent males who think Sailor Moon has some redeeming quality.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

I'd have to say learning a fictional language is my threshold of geek, if only because I don't have enough spare time for it. :P

You will never catch me dressed up in any sort of sci-fi/fantasy related costume of any kind, whatsoever- especially not in public at a film premiere.

But then, I'm geeky in other ways. E.g. if I were ever to go to a fancy dress party, I'd go as a Red Army officer (1980s). That would rule.

Hmmm, a series has to have a large amount of coolness for me to nerd over it, like Red Dwarf or Blade.

That said, they never made me want to learn the entire scripts or anything, that's geeky, dressign up as characters i find a bit geeky, as is wearing football shirts, by the same token. Knowing the storylines of sci fi is not geeky, it shows you've been paying attention. :D

My limit would be dressing up. I talk about Sci-Fi here and in RL with people who are interested, i watch SW and ST and bacically any eatchable Sci-Fi, but thats as far as i go. I am interested in LARP but only because the group i'd join is 1/4 female and they are apparently quite easy.

Going to message boards, watching the movies/shows, talking about it and reading. Thats about as far as I go. I don't dress up as my favorite characters, or attend conventions.

I have dressed up for the cinema, actually... The Rocky Horror Picture Show

IIRC you once said you could read marain, or whatever the sw language is. I've not done that with Blade vampire-language. :P

I spend often exorbitant amounts of money on anime, manga, video games, EU books, and other DVDs. That's about it.

And I think I'll buy the Kill Bill soundtrack today.

Pretty much the same for me. One of my mates at Uni dragged me alone to a role playing group once, when they mention dressing up as characters and acting it out I couldn't leave fast enough.

Post on the boards, watch the movies/read the books, and discuss them back on the messge board (there's some particulary spirited debate in the PSW, AWAY!).

I watch sci-fi, I read sci-fi when I have the time. I really doubt I'll ever attend a convention and I will never dress up like a Wookie or anything. No LARP here either.

My true geek-ness is in computers. I'm the kind of guy who will skip a day of college just because my network is down, I also tend to format at least once a fortnight recently just because things become disorganised.
