I answered the door to find a pair of JWs standing there. Instantly, I said OH! Hi! You must be hear to clean the blood out of my carpet!"

They gave me a strange look, and one started into his pitch, but I cut him off with "By the way, there's this chalk outline I've been meaning to get rid of...will you charge extra?"

They ran like the hounds of hades were after them.

When I was a kid, my grandpa (veteran, and fairly senile by that time), flashed a piece at a Jehovah's witness. They never came around again. The downside was the fine.

I live in an apartment building so I here them coming long before they get here. A katana covered in fresh dripping fake blood is an effective tool. Jumping out naked except for a kabuki mask screaming 'bonzai' guarantees they won't come back.

My mom lives out in the country though, she calls her dogs. Skeksis and Mystic, their husky-wolf hybrids.

Two JW's appeared at my Door asking "Do you believe in the Bible?" My answer "What version? it was changed eight times." led to a 15 minute talk. After that they left an didn't bother me for six years. <br> I always say "Know your enemys". The best way to get rid of JW's is to know their believes, to know the bible and then simply grind them into dust using both.

A good example is Leviticus. No JW I met had a beard. Leviticus 19,27 tells the faitful not to cut one's beard.

Going through peoples posts here I can see that the majority favors the juvenile approach...

Personly when the JW have come knocking on my door I ask them in, or to return at a more convenient time.

That is I always take the time to talk to them. Then I start asking friendly questions about their religion and why they have selected it. After that I start to ask them what they really believe in. After that we usually go into the bible a bit. Usually this takes a few hours so now they need to go. So then they give you a few pamphlets and I ask them when they can come back to continue the discussion.
When they come back I've already prepared more questions designed on biblical chapters that are unclear (usually I hand pick these chapters for each person) so we discuss again.
Usually this leads to them being a bit confused but since I'm always friendly and rational they will of course book another meeting. Usually this is where they start asking questions to their leaders and their leaders start writing nice and civil notes to me with answers to difficult questions. They return - we discuss. Usually by now I'm giving the pretence of not understanding something or other, asking them to please explain why I feel that this bit and that bit are in conflict. Now since I'm nice and they are nice they want to help me understand, this means that they will start thinking about my questions for real and ask them to their leaders back at bible study.

By the 4th-6th time they knock on my door and 'we are really sorry but we have been asked not to discuss further with you until we have studied more' but I'm always welcome to come down to bible studies.

But since I have planted a seed of doubt it usually takes 6months to a year before a new pair show up at my door.

Why do I do this?
Because they are people just like you and me and deserve to be treated as such and given a chance at life. If I can by friendly questions make them in turn question the dogma then I have given them a key to freedom, but it is still up to them if they want to find the lock. Some people are actually better of locked and some people are better of free.

What's wrong with the juvenile apprach? It gets them off your property. Sure, they have a right ot go door to door, but if you don't like it, you also have the right to get them off your property. Sure, you can be persistent and logical, but that takes all the fun out of it, doesn't it?

The last time I got into an argument with a JW, I calmly pointed out problem after problem with the Bible until he suddenly started yelling at me that The Bible came from God and is perfect, and if it contradicts science and logic, then science and logic are both wrong. I've also visited a JW service to see what it's like, and it's downright frightening, because of all the brainwashing techniques.

I have a feeling that the success rate for converting these idiots is probably much lower than one might think from Spoonist's post.

A good friend of mine now living in SW Kansas had his own ways for dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses who came to his door. On one occasion, it was little more than letting the JW give out his spiel, then telling him "well, I really appreciate you taking the trouble to come here and tell me all these things, but I'm afraid you're a little too late, because I'M THE DEVIL BWAHAAHAHAHAH!" With a face looking like a cross between Curley Howard and a very sinister Bruce Willis and eyes he could slant to give himself a particularly evil look, HE could pull it off.

On another occasion, his then-girlfriend (now wife of ten years) and her teenaged daughter by another marriage were at the house when two more JWs dropped by. He started off by answering the door in a cruddy T-shirt and jeans while mother and daughter, fully clothed, simply slipped on bathrobes while one let her pentagram pendant hang outside, and as the JWs launched into their spiel, first one and then the other appeared on either side, fawning over him. The JWs had trouble finishing their sentences after that.

For some reason, the JWs avoided his house after that.

I think JW comes around once or MAYBE two times out of the entire year. I never got why people hated JWs. Maybe because my town is relatively conservative they limit the door-to-door annoyers? We get more trick-or-treaters on Haloween than door-to-door annoyers during the whole year. And they don't really annoy us that much. Most of the time, the door-to-door annoyers are the local active-in-the-community-type guys that keep our town nice and keep out the other door-to-door annoyers. lol
