Carry out your revenge and feel good that you at least got your own back against someone you hated.
Or show you aren't like them and simply live it out and forget the arseholes you come across in life.

So, Superman gets the shit beat out of him and has to grow up in a living hell and you folks have the balls to tell him to grow up, knowing that the folks that caused his pain won't be punished? That's bullshit. It may not be justice, and it probably won't change their behavior, but at least Super even the scales a little bit and gave the bastards a taste of what they dished out.

Artillery. Its what's for dinner.
Personally, Superman's history is far from living hell in my opinion.Arrow Mk84 wrote:So, Superman gets the shit beat out of him and has to grow up in a living hell and you folks have the balls to tell him to grow up, knowing that the folks that caused his pain won't be punished? I had no idea you were so familiar with the details of his childhood. Please, enlighten us as to how you obtained this kind of intimately personal knowledge about another board member.Shinova wrote:Personally, Superman's history is far from living hell in my opinion.

Superman, if you were beaten and treated that way, then I can't really blame you for what you did. I wouldn't have called the woman a dyke, personally, but I would have written something equally nasty.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

A somewhat derogatory term for lesbians in America. It's used to refer primarily to more masculine lesbians.what's a dyke?

IMO, what you are suggesting should be the second step. Nothing can help more then to face them off.~JasonColonel Olrik wrote:Meh, anyway, an email is not that fun. You should have gone there and have a little talk with all of them. A warm thank you for all the love they gave you. It's one of the funs of growing up, the bullies suddenly don't seem so frightning anymore.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

As for what Superman did....relatively low key and honestly it's better to confront bullies face-to-face, because aside from that not much gets resolved persay.

Let's keep in mind that when people do things like this, the purpose is not to make the world a better place; it is to obtain some sense of personal closure. A big, important act like confronting people is not necessary; even a small symbolic gesture like a rude E-mail may be all one needs. It's sort of like going back to visit your old high school and realizing what a small, unimportant place it really is. Helps to put your present life in perspective.

A term for lesbian i heard somewhere it comes from swedish or dutch porn or something, because it's another name for a reservoir, with the lesbians putting their fingers in the dyke or something...yeah.Colonel Olrik wrote:what's a dyke?
Anyway, proving you're better than someone by feeling superior because you haven't caused them harm is an empty feeling in my experience. I've always preferred getting revenge, to be honest.

I say good on Superman, sometimes a little revenge is all we have left.

So, just what is your definition of a living hell? Getting your ass beat because you don't want to do something and being routinely targeted by an idiot isn't enough? Does he need to be staked down and left for the crows first?Shinova wrote:Personally, Superman's history is far from living hell in my opinion.Arrow Mk84 wrote:So, Superman gets the shit beat out of him and has to grow up in a living hell and you folks have the balls to tell him to grow up, knowing that the folks that caused his pain won't be punished? I find it amazing that some folks here criticize Superman for doing some name calling in a nasty email when they've done the same thing for something far more petty.

Please, having a temper tantrum and being proud of his execution of said temper tantrum is hardly terms for people to congradulate him. If his father abused him and he made a post saying that he confronted him on it.... Good. Or reported it to the authorities....Good.Arrow Mk84 wrote:So, Superman gets the shit beat out of him and has to grow up in a living hell and you folks have the balls to tell him to grow up, knowing that the folks that caused his pain won't be punished? If he wrote a scathing letter to the Bishop (or whatever church official) detailing his abuse in one of their churchs....Good
If he sent said letter to the OP/Ed section of the local paper...Good.
To have a little tizzy fit and expect people to see it as some mature response to abuse or inconvienence....
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

IMHO, Actually, it is. The ability to put away a major unpleasant event behind you all by yourself and without seriously harming people is by itself a form of maturity. Certainly not everyone is up to it.Knife wrote:To have a little tizzy fit and expect people to see it as some mature response to abuse or inconvienence....
And I doubt he wrote this to make himself look more mature. Rather, he had finally solved a little problem with his life his own way. And because this is the board where people discuss everything down to cutting their penises on a slice of bread (not all boards are that open,) he decided to share that happy news - only to be cut down by people who seem to think that he should turn the other cheek.
IMHO, there are limits to "turn-the-other-cheek." It must be purely voluntary - not merely a choke down in the name of maturity and PC. Since the severity of the wrong is clearly too great for Superman to easily forgive without repercussion, I feel he should not be asked to choke it down, especially when it turned out that his idea of relieving the pressure (thus allowing him to close the event) is something so minor and harmless.
I congratulate Superman for getting past a phase of his life and genuinely hope his next would be better.

I think that what a lot of people forget about that "turn the other cheek" bullshit is that while it may be a laudable thing to do, it is not a moral obligation. If somebody punches you in the nose, the noble thing to do is to walk away with your head held high, but if you punch him right back, it would take quite the self-righteous ass to sniff that you're a bad person for doing so.
In this case, the retort was far more mild than the original insult. This is like being punched in the face with somebody cheering the bully on and then insulting the person who cheered. As I said, this thread presented a lot of people with an opportunity to show how righteous they are, and they leapt right on it.
There's quite an irony in people being so judgemental and even (in some cases) downright insulting about such a harmless act as a nasty E-mail.

So long as the actions taken as revenge don't seriously break the law (or break it at all for that matter), say, going around to your former tormentors and beating them to within an inch of your life, or even worse killing them, then I suppose that little bit of satisfaction helps.
But, if the matter is not so much a life changing event, say, high school bullies who just called you a load of names, then just let it go and get on with life, that's usually the best.
It's a case-by-case assessment, can't really judge all reactions the same way.
