Why the hell wouldn't it be serious? Letting every little piece of crap and junk in done by anyone just so we can all have a bunch of jolly, no tension fun would be insulting to those of us who ARE taking the contest seriously. Hey, I was just saying that I didn't think it should be allowable to just do some Filter Frenzy on someone elses artwork and then enter it into a contest, because even if it is just a silly BBS contest, it is still taking advantage of someone elses artwork.

How about this, we make it a contest rule that the large majority of the source artwork in an entered piece must be created by the contestant in the event that they enter a photoshop piece. While a piece can incorporate elements from other works not by the contestant, but they cannot be the central focus of the work.

How does that sound?

DF: It's a matter of pride in one's work; that's what makes an art contest "serious." That's not to say that one can't have fun with it, though.

I understand that people take pride in their works and I believe such people deserve to win.

However being eccentric and serious in your work doesn't mean that other people looking to have a good time (and not have to worry about whats at stake, without care of the outcome) should be bitched out for not being so serious at the same time.

Again, I don't understand why you think that we can't have any fun if the contest has rules and guidelines. A contest without such is not a contest, but an exhibition. What sort of conditions do you feel are needed for you to have what you would consider to be a good time in a thread, particularly one that is a contest?

I'm not trying to insult you or be a dick about this, I just honestly cannot understand your issue with the matter.
