FUCKING BLUE JAYS! I insist on giving Mitch Williams the credit for that home run, rather than Joe Carter. Of course poor Mitch had pitched more innings than he should have game after game. But still!Darth Wong wrote:
In 1992-1993, when my hometown's Blue Jays won the World Series, I watched the games. How could I not? It's not exactly my favourite sport, but it's my home town team! And I'll admit that I almost hit the roof when Joe Carter blasted his Series-winning homerun out of the park. Of course, the very next year was the strike ...
Philadelphia's curse lives on. It's not as long standing as most sports curses, but it covers all 4 major sports, which is unusual for such a large city.
In 2003 news, here are my thoughts about the outcome of tonights game.
1. No annoying Boston fans crowding around every TV on campus next week. Yes, Yankee fans are also annoying, but I've learned to ignore them.
2. For all of everyone's talk of a Red Sox - Cubs series, neither team will advance, and no curses will be broken. Sorry as I am for these teams' fans, this somehow feels right.
As far as I'm concerned, it's been another season of the world's slowest moving sport. I really don't care who wins the Series.
In case you didn't notice notice from the above line, like you Wong my feelings about Toronto are purely hometown based. At least the Flyers beat the Maple Leafs last year. Of course we then lost to the Senators, but whatever.
If you don't ask, how will you know?
