Can Jedi sense the presence of droids?

Post by Shinova »

Like how they can sense people coming or around them. Can they sense the same with droids?

Secondly, do their precog work with the same effectiveness against droids as well?

Don't know about sensing droids, but precog is precog, whether it's with an animal or a machine.

Precog is sensing an event before it happens. Sensing the presence of a being is limited to particular biologicals (ie., non-Yuuzhan Vong species).

So about sensing a presence: how does it work against inorganics, like droids?

It seems some can, some can't. My guess is rather than sensing them directly some forces users can senses them indirectly through their effects rather than directly like they do with a living being.

For instance, Jedi Joe could feel a bunch of stormies coming to get him from across the abandoned space station. The assassin droids he wouldn't detect until there was some direct intent to attack him and precog warned him, I'd think.

Kay.

I actually made this topic cause I was running the idea of KOSMOS (Xenosaga) vs a Jedi through my head, and wondering if one would be able to sense KOSMOS within a nearby or far vincinity or not.

Actually yes, the Jedi can definately sense droids. In the Courtship of Princess Leia, Luke explains to Isolder that just about everything is interconnected with the force. And it's further reinforced by his revelation as he's dying from his encounter with the witch.

Obiwan defined it as an energy being created by all living things, and that is probably the truth, from a certain point of view. I guess it's readily exhibited by living things, but the Force IS the Galaxy, the Force that binds everything together and works just as strong in cold vacuum as it does on a planet full of life.

But back to droids, yes definately. Just as Anakin has an uncanny ability with machines enhanced by the force. All the systems are within the realm of the Force so each has its presence.

In other books, some character refers to droids as abominations, since the Force is not "flowing" through them.

No...I don't think Force users directly feel the presence of droids.

Or it depends on the certain character's mastery of the Force.

Wasn't there a book or something where Luke was hiding with some girl and he couldn't sense R2 and 3CPO when they were at the door? I believe he just said that he felt nothing.

There is a Force which flows through droids and other forms of machinery.

Electromagnetism.

I'm sure a Force-user can sense the mechanical emanations of electric and magnetic fields of a droid in operation.

I think Jedi can detect the "electricity" or power that "flows" through a droid.

Methinks that if the Jedi knows the droid personally (ie Luke and Threepio), then they could.

Also, if the droid was Force-sensative.

Jorrus C'aboath(sp?) claimed that droids where abominations. "creaures that could reason and think, yet aren't truely a part of the force" or words to that effect.

I asked this same question on a different board and the people there said that Luke didn't actually sense anyone on the other side of the door, so assumed that it must be Threepio.

So, the Force is in rocks, why not other abiotic thing? And IIRC, Jedi can detect sentience (don't know where this is from, but I read it somewhere), so if a droid is sentient, the Jedi should be able to detect that.
