According to CNN's lastest on it, her husband's lawyer is quoted as stating "where her cerebral cortex was is nothing but a black hole filled with spinal fluid". Personally, if that is true, I don't see how therapy is going to improve her.
While the husband may have some questionable reasons for letting her die, it should still be his choice, and not that of Gov. Jeb Bush, or any other government official!

Well, IIRC, the parents petitioning Jebby and the legislature was what got that load of tripe passed. Idunno, Do you all think in a case like this that the husband's right to make a decision outweigh the rights of the parents?
I mean, the decision on the guys wife was made. The governor and the legislature didn't like it so a new law was passed so the guy's legal choice could be over ridden by people who didn't like it. Then again, maybe that's the point. The law might be illegal in itself but it can still end up stalling the guy while he fights to get it overturned. Meanwhile his wife's parents can fight for custody of their daughter.

IIRC, ex post facto is specifically a reference to charging someone rather than something like this.

Yep, she's been like this for thirteen years people.
Now, after a bunch of court battles, the order was given to remove her tube. It was a court order, and, according to the paper today, all the various courts that have gotten involved in this agreed to remove the tube.
Now, here's the funny thing: the courts were exercising the power the legislature specifically gave to them in cases like these. This is not the first case of this type, and the others have been decided upon by the courts under a law the Florida Legislature passed (this is assuming the information in today's St Pete Times is accurate...I didn't pick up the Tampa Trib).
Now, the Legislature has, in essence reversed it self with this law that was passed within a matter of not more than two days (IIRC), that gave the Governer the power to put a "stay" on a court order, and is only valid for this one particular case (the law will pass out fifteen days after it's passing, which will be 30 October). So, without going over all the reports, all the testimony, that several courts have spent years going over, they give the Governer the power to, in essence, reverse a court order, with a little quickie law that will not effect any other cases out there, before, or after, becuase it will expire on 30 October.
Now, does anyone else see any problems with the above scenario?

I know that if I ever ended up in a vegetative state that I under no circumstances want to kept "alive."
In this particular case there is only the word of the husband but I am inclined to believe him. For lots of people I know, discussions on such matters have occurred with partners rather than with the family at the dinner table.
My aunt ended up in a vegetative state after suffering a traumatic head injury and subsequent stroke. After a week, my uncle chose to stop intravenous feeding and life support because she was never going to wake up. It was awful but ultimately respectful to the memory of my aunt.
They've been talking about this on every network for the past few weeks, and the more I hear the more people's stupidity disgusts me. This woman has been brain-dead for 13 years, brain tissue doesn't just reactivate. There is no happy ending lying in wait, Terri Schindler-Schiavo is dead. Her parents can sit around wishing for some miracle cure, but by the time that happens(assuming that it ever does) what kind of life could she possibly lead? I'll put it this way, 13 years ago I was 9. I know this for certain because my little sister and I are 13 years apart. Fuck, what does it say that Terri Schiavo has been in this state longer than my sister has been living. If I were in her state for that long, I'd want to die. Best case scenario, I'd recover only to find that life has gone on without me and I have to play catch-up. And this is what they wish for their daughter? Keeping this woman "alive" like this is nothing more than an insult to the person that she was. It robs her life of anything resembling dignity or meaning. Someone should tell her parents to stop holding on the shell of their daughter.

I saw CNN last night where Larry King talking with Terri Schiavos husband, who had a doctor with him. They showed X-rays of her head, and the above isn't an exaggeration, her cerebellum has atrophied into nothing and filled with spinal fluid. That's not something you can fix. Oddly enough, I changed the channel to FOXNews and they were also talking about the Terri Schavo case, but with Terri's parents attorney (rather than, you know, a profession doctor with documentation of Terri's condition) who was saying that she was making great strides toward, and this was a great victory, and Jeb Bush is great for slamming the legislation through, and very heavily implying that the husband had strangled Terri causing all of this. Of course, I wasn't suprised at all on FOXNews choice of "experts". Then FOXNews went to a story about Laci Peterson (yes, they are still talking about Laci Peterson).
