You don't live in the US, right? All of those are US corporations who've had some shady deals going on.

Halliburton is a huge contractor that does a lot of stuff, VP Cheney gets a fixed pension from them. As a Halliburton subsidiary got the contract for the Iraqi reconstrction, there were some raised eyebrows over that.

MCI Worldcom is a huge telecom company, the cooked the books a'la Enron and apparently are billions in the red.

Kmart is a store like Wal Mart or Target and went into bankruptcy.

Merrill Lynch is an investment company and they did some unethical deals.

HealthSouth is apparently an insurance company, I don't remember what they did.

Freddie Mac is a huge, huge quasi-government lending agency for home loans and such. They did some shady things, too.

Salomon Smith Barney is another investment firm, IIRC, but I don't remember what they did, either.

Yes, I do, but I get some of my news here. What does that tell you? ><

Those, with the exception of HealthSouth, I have not heard of. HS, I just don't remember they did.

Accounting fraud, tax fraud, medicare fraud, loans to executives (which have now been outlawed). The usual stuff.

I don't know why Enron isn't on the list, it's probably worse than all of the corporations listed. Maybe because it's no longer around.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

The corporations here have all been caught, as well. Salomon Smith Barney I don't remember doing anything however.

They just overlooked the shady deals made by a lot of their clients and actually recommended them despite knowing that the companies would tank.
