I think anime geeks, I know a few, and their just weird, and downright scary at times.

The Trek geeks tend to be more fun. Especially if you're "in the circle."

the geeks that are the most scary aren't even in the poll. They are the hoardes of Lovecraft fanatics that swarm into the city every year around Halloween like clockwork. I swear to christ if one more obnoxius goth in a Cthulhu t-shirt askes me for directions to R'lyeh, i'll fucking feed him to Cthulhu my damn self.

The scariest geeks IMO were the sword/medieval geeks I met when I was on the college fencing team in 1998/1999. All other geeks are pretty much harmless compared to these guys and girls. I don't think they saw 20th c. america as a valid reality in which there consciousness should exist - they loved weapons and whacking each other with them, and told stories about walking around campus with swords at night, and practicing fencing in their dorm halls freaking out people. What was scary was they looked like physically healthy, well-collected individuals too; except they had some very distant, detached look in their eyes.

In Scotland and Wales, these medieval re-enactors got so much into this pastime, that in medieval battle re-enactments guys get their hands and other bones broken from getting too into the battle, and in Edinburgh, there was a guy named Chic the highlander who has a permanent limp because his knee-cap got cut off by a claymore. Plus, he won't wear anything else except a kilt, which is kinda gross considering he rides a motorcycle.

These geeks kick all other geeks' asses in terms of scariness.

Magic: The Gathering geeks.

These people spend THOUSANDS of dollars on new cards, and sit there playing it all the time. Any spare moment they break out their cards. It's quite insane.

They freak me out. And to add insult to injury, a female I've been chasing is attached to one.

I hate magic geeks.

I saw 4 magic the gathering geeks who were playing at a Wizards of the Coast store get into the biggest bitch fight. It seemed like they were unleashing years of supressed frustation on each other.

That geekery isn't limited to Magic, while it's the most known, I've seen people here go nuts for the Star Trek and Star Wars CCG's, between them I've probably spent some $3000, not bad for an 18y/o.

really.... i have some of those collecting dust in a drawer. i'll sell you my Picard, Jellico, Enterprise, Worf cards for a dollar....thats about what they are worth now.

Trekkies, no doubt. the ones who think that treknology in the shows/movies is quite real and feasable. It makes me laugh laugh laugh to hear a trekkie refer to trek as science fiction and things like star wars as "Space Fantasy" I usually tell them something like "Go read Arthur C. Clarke, at least HE tries to stay withing the confines of physics and realism. Oh and guess what? His stuff is science fiction, too. Doesn't make it any more real." Honestly, How can you make any distinction between science fiction and fantasy until one or the other is actually REAL and actually happens? Rabid Trekkies are the worst..I won't mention names, but we all know what I mean.

Example: Ever heard of a Warsie argue that a lightsaber is not only possible, but we're right on the cusp of developing the technology to produce them? I haven't. (Okay, maybe SOME of you have, but in my short lifespan I have seen zero people argue that they are, and many argue that Phasers are quite possible, and could be made in a few short years. I usually point them to SD.net and tell em to bite me.) Then I got back to reading the Wishsong of Shannara

I agree. Trek geeks are just hilarious (would pitiable be the right word?).. Star Wars geeks like us, well.. the most harm we do is drop a few grand on some cool toys which we are just as likely to do on video games and such. Though there are definate freaks (one only has to watch the Conan O'Briens Triumph at the Star Wars premiere) associated with Star Wars.

But yup.. definately.. on average some of those anime freaks scare me. They take obsession and idealization several steps WAAAAY to far.

I don't call either of them science fiction. They're what the term "skiffy" was invented.
But Trekkies claim it more than warsies, and at least Star Wars is good. A westren in space is still much more worth while than a Soap Opera in space.

I know the type you're talking about.. yes, they're the ones most likely to cause physical harm to somebody. I have no beef with re-enacters, I think they're great and the world needs more them in fact so they can help bring history alive in those cool shows and festivals. But those that are obsessed with sharp weaponary can get a little scary.

And they do walk around campus with huge knives in their bags and such. Good thing I balance it out with my 9mm in my bag
